The Freeper Canteen Presents

“What Is The Origin Of Your Screen Name Part II”

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the Second Edition Of "What Is The Origin Of Your Screen Name"

How did you choose your screen name?

Did you get it from the military?

A Famous Actor?

A fictional character?

A time in History?

In my own case, I was thinking about a screen name, and I heard “Ain’t misbehavin” on the radio.

A few days later, my MIL send me a cute book about a kitteh named Ms. Behavin.

That same week, I bought a new blouse and the tag inside said Msbehavin, and the rest is history!

Come share the story of your screen name with us! Have fun!

Please remember that The Canteen is a place for our Troops and their families to rest, relax, and relate.

Please check thy politics at the door. A gentle reminder from Ms B.

My parents gave it to me!

They didn’t ask me my opinion.

I suspect that if I took a survey, I would find that over 90% of FR readers could guess my profession from my screen name alone. I’d guess that even on DU and Kos a good 15% could get it right just by reading same screen name.

FWIW, my screen name is my maiden name. It’s not original, but I can live with it.

Early in my political life, I was so angry about what the Dinkins administration was doing to the city, and my neighborhood in particular, that I would tear the roof off the Community Board meetings on a regular basis.

When I was captured on TV giving everybody an earful, a guy in the Giuliani camp started calling me “firebrand.” I liked the guy and the image, so the name came to me quickly when it was time to choose a freeper name.

I was having a conversation with a friend in a small but public place where others could easily overhear. He wanted to encourage his son to read, and the very casual discussion meandered over to what we read as kids.

I was probably around 4 or 5 when my grandmother started me on a steady diet of the Hardy Boys series. When we visited her, I'd report that I had finished the one she had given me last time, and she would magically present me with the next number in the series (she told me years later she had bought the whole set and hidden them). I loved those old blue bound hardcovers (and still have them on the bookshelf in my library). That was my suggestion.

An angry liberal woman (aren't they all) sitting nearby couldn't resist injecting herself into the discussion. She criticized the books with the usual liberal slop...they lack diversity, they are misogynistic, they wave the flag...blah, blah, blah. I replied that I had always found Bayport a nice place to visit as a kid, and she said something to the effect of my still being there.

Hence...

This spectacular crystal of Rhodochorsite (MnCO3), known as the “Alma King” measures 14 cm x 16.5 cm. The perfect rhombohedron was recovered in the wall of a narrow pocket on a matrix of white, needle clear Quartz, blue Fluorite, black Sphalerite and Tetrahedrite, brasse Chalcopyrite and pale yellow Calcite. The “Alma King” was collected in 1992 from the Sweet Home Mine, which is located about 144 km southwest of Denver, Colorado, near the small old mining town of Alma. Sweet Home Mine was originally opened as a Silver mine in the 1870’s and was mined until the 1960’s. Throughout the mine’s lifetime, nice Rhodochrosite specimens were found along with the silver ore, but not used commercially. In 1991 the mine reopened as a Rhodochrosite specimen mine.

Rhodochrosites from the Sweet Home Mine are gem-quality crystals because of their translucent cherry-red color, which is due to the relatively low amount of iron, magnesium and calcium impurities. Note that when calcium, magnesium, and especially iron ions substitute for manganese, a pink color will result. Many experts acclaim the “Alma King” as the finest and most valuable mineral specimen ever mined in North America. Rhodochrosite became the Colorado State Mineral in 2002.

The “Alma King” can be seen in the permanent display in the Coors Mineral Hall at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Denver, Colorado. (Photo taken in July 2005, Canon Power Shot A80).

Some website had a waste-of-time thread to come up with a word that doesn’t google. I found the word “perchant” was a word with very few references on google and decided that “perchanting” should be a word as well, but it didn’t google, at the time, so I won the thread. I later decided that I’d use “perchanting” as a screen name so that if I ever google the word I’d come up with just my old posts, but then I decided to just go with perchant.
