President Obama announced Wednesday that he has accepted Gen. Stanley McChrystal's resignation as the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan following a scathing article in which he and his aides were quoted criticizing the administration for its handling of the war.
In doing so, Obama nominated Gen. David Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command and the former commanding general in Iraq, to replace him. The president stressed that while the decision was a difficult one, it does not represent a change in the course of the war.
"This is a change in personnel, but it is not a change in policy," Obama said in the Rose Garden, Petraeus by his side and McChrystal nowhere to be seen.

well they cant say its Bushs fault anymore. time to play ball Obamie.. like a real man.
Yes, he can. Now he’s got Bush’s man back in and they can start calling him “betray us” again.
I read the article. General McChrystal did not say one one word about the arrogant p o s, who currently resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave
” Remember when they called him General Betray-us ?? “
Yeah ;-)
Obama is a sorry ass pussy who needs to be impeached, tried for treason and sent to Gitmo to rot with his muslim buddies.
“And now the question is: will McChrystal choose to tell us all what he really thinks? We will know the answer to this by watching to see where he goes and what rank he wears. Three and Four star general officers wear the rank of their appointment. No three or four star appointment, no third or fourth star, they revert to the grade of Major General (two stars). On retirement, they normally retire in the highest grade served, but can be made to retire as a Major General if they have fallen from favor.
If McChrystal gets another three or four star job, or retires as a four star general, you can bet that the price paid was to keep his mouth shut. If hes out the door as a Major General, he will be spilling the beans very soon.”
Having been in meetings with McChrystal in Afghanistan last year, I am confident he will NOT spill any beans. He is 100% professional. This episode has been mortifying for him and is a personal tragedy of the deepest proportions. It’s a tragedy for the country as well.
I only know him through casual meetings when he was much more junior, but I suspect that you are right. Not well served by his staff, IMO.
Right, he was definitely not well served by his staff. The media is saying a civilian “media advisor” is the one who set up the encounters with the Rolling Stone reporter. Bad, bad, bad call.
Where is the Soros money in all of this? Why is more investigation not focusing on the magazine and its potential intent for such a story?
Lest we forget, McChrystal was the guy who ran Pizza Hut, Burger King and other troop amenities out of Afghanistan.
How do you know?
It was in the news a while back.
OBAMA SHOULD FIRE THE SECRETARY OF H.U.D.!
And appoint himself as the replacement.
“The General demonstrated low moral character, poor judgement, and complete stupidity.
He voted for the known Mooslime, Commie, Chicago thug, doper, who isnt even a Natural Born Citizen.
He doesnt belong in the military, and certainly shouldn’t be considered for President”.
What a crock!! What low moral character??? What did he actually say against Bam and the rest of the actors? Everything allegedly quoted unnamed aides. He said he voted for Bam, could he have been toying with the author? I woudn’t take the word of a New Republic writer. He proved himself in the military and I for one would be proud to serve under him. He shouldn’t be considered for President? Why not? We’ve already elected jerks like old man Bush, GW, Bill Clinton & the Chit-town thug Bam. McChrystal is head and shoulder above them all.
“During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act...”-Orwell
Petraeus should have told Obama to F.O.
One guy finally tells the truth, and you’d have thought he just nuked W., D.C.
I am ashamed of the Republican reaction to his comments.
We sure have the top enablers money can buy back there in D.C.
Remember that President Bush’s priorities were always the troops and that they got what they needed. Now the question is what will the arrogant pos do if General Petraeus asks him for more troops or equipment? Will he give it to him or will he let him wait for month like he did let General Petraeus wait and then give him much less then he asks for> My guess is on the latter
Do you think Petraeus has forgotten that these same people tried to personally destroy him back in ‘07?
Somehow I doubt it.
Well, trying to look at it one way: McChrystal just MADE FuBO’s incompetence blatantly public...And gave himself a public forum for open discussion now.
Shine a light on the cockroach, so to speak...
As for the Repubs...well what did you really expect? They have no spine until they outnumber the Dems 10 to 1...and even then it’s questionable...
