President Obama announced Wednesday that he has accepted Gen. Stanley McChrystal's resignation as the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan following a scathing article in which he and his aides were quoted criticizing the administration for its handling of the war.
In doing so, Obama nominated Gen. David Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command and the former commanding general in Iraq, to replace him. The president stressed that while the decision was a difficult one, it does not represent a change in the course of the war.
"This is a change in personnel, but it is not a change in policy," Obama said in the Rose Garden, Petraeus by his side and McChrystal nowhere to be seen.

That is the military. You fight to protect a citizens rights but you do not get to use those same rights. The vast majority of civilians know and speak out that Obama has no clue what he is doing in with Afghanistan or much else for that matter.
Darn, my money was on George Clooney replacing McCrystal ...
Dammit!
Obamas General gets dumped, Bushs General returns.
Can Bush return as CIC too?
DRUDGE SLEEPS A LOT I HAVE NOTICED. . . .
I was thinking Ellen Degeneres.
I’ve always liked General Petraeus. He seems like a man of character and honor. I feel sorry for him, having to serve under a CIC like Obama, but am glad someone will be looking out for the troops. I’m sure that’s the only reason he’s still around ... his sense of obligation and loyalty to the men and women of the armed forces and the mission. Hopefully Obama doesn’t run him out too.
Excellent point. General Petraeus should have given him the bird
Pass the popcorn!
Seems like a down grade for both military men.
Gen McChrystal wasn’t being insubordinate. He just sacrificed his career for his troops. No one will ever be able to say he was “Just following orders”. What an honorable choice he made.
Hillary Clinton also proclaimed Bush Knew (in advance about the 9-11 attacks) from the floor of the Senate in February 2002 “
That alone should be enough of a reason why she should never be President of the USA.
The other main reason is that she stayed with her philanderer in chief farrr toooo long.
David Petraeus is my most favorite modern general, being that he was the commander of the Screaming Eagles, when he was the post commander of Fort Campbell, KY
You think it’s HONORABLE to dish the president in a trashy magazine while you’re still his employee? UH..NO. If he were HONORABLE..he would have resigned his post and THEN SPOKE and spoke louder and more urgently.
How long until The Won “accepts the resignation” of Gen. Petraeus?
