In an effort to build its credibility and influence nationwide, the tea party movement on Thursday announced the formation of a "federation" of tea party groups.

Mark Shroder, a member of the Memphis Tea Party, told a crowd of roughly 200 conservative activists gathered outside the state capitol that 21 factions of the movement will form the National Federation Tea Party. Shroder said the federation will act as a "rapid response" to "misinformation" allegedly put forth by the "mainstream media."

How to split the Tea Party Movement?

Step one marginalize anyone who is not part of the federation...

Can't disagree. Once you become a "party" then sooner or later you lose your real raison d'etre (Biblical American values embodied in among other things, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution) and start to put a premium on your own perpetuation. You lose the edge of, "Give me liberty or give me death."

Need I remind you that Mr. Henry's famous line was delivered at a time when the Founders, including Mr. Henry himself, were actively organizing on a national level -- that is, doing precisely what the folks on this thread do not want to do?

What's wrong with following the Founders' example? I mean, of course, aside from running against the grain of the pridefulness of those who object to being organized, that is.

There is no need to assume that this will create a "Party," although it's possible that it could become one. It's a set of ideas that need to be broadcast and sold, and it's truly a vital project -- one that really needs to be done on a national basis, with the resources that only a national organization can marshal.

One might even contemplate it becoming something like the original Republicans, who replaced the feckless Whigs in the 1850s.

Interestingly, it sounds like you don't actually trust anybody in the Tea Party movement.

LOL. The fastest way to earn my distrust is for a group to insist that I trust then first.

I was never a fan of Dick Armey when he was my representative in Denton County, Texas. Of course I would never vote for any Democrap who ran against him.

LOL. The fastest way to earn my distrust is for a group to insist that I trust then first.

Meaning that you only join groups of people whom you intrinsically distrust?

Oh yes, just look at the NV problem.

It goes without saying that every tactic imaginable will be used by the lefties (Dums) to smear the people.

I feel the Tea Party movement should remain individual nonviolent guerrilla fighters with targets that include the DC establishment, DNC, RNC, MSM etc.

The timing of Skoda’s announcemnent only adds to the suspicions. When NormsRevenge first posted the article about him months back, I didn’t like the sound of him. He came across as wanting to “lead” and takeover. I kept track of him to Nashville’s Tea Party Convention where Sarah was the keynote speaker, and afterward he sort of faded away until now.

I think he’ll get a lot of flak from others Tea Party chairs. This is a movement, not a “party.”

I’m with you. I don’t like it one bit and I’m not sure there’s anyone behind it or anyone’s money behind it....yet, because this Skoda guy has a huge ego and he’s been dying to takeover and lead.

“The first thing we need to do is make ourselves a ‘big tent’.” a spokesman for the Tea Parties said. “Polls indicate that we’re not making any headway with minorities, women or homosexuals. So we’re going to tone down some of the hate filled rhetoric and try to outreach to them. It’s the only way we can win in Nov.”

This is just part of Libertarians agendas....these people are also within the Tea Party but I would not want any of them to be voted as leadership into the Tea Party....they might think so though. Thus the Tea Party needs to be a free flowing movement...it does very well in forming to oppose candidates without leadership. I would not want them organized in such a way as to “appoint” a libertarian leadership who adhere to the following....

------------------------------------------------------------

The Issue: We welcome all refugees to our country and condemn the efforts of U.S. officials to create a new “Berlin Wall” which would keep them captive. We condemn the U.S. government’s policy of barring those refugees from our country and preventing Americans from assisting their passage to help them escape tyranny or improve their economic prospects.

The Principle: We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age or sexual preference. We oppose government welfare and resettlement payments to non-citizens just as we oppose government welfare payments to all other persons.

Solutions: We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.

Transitional Action: We call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.

I am an movement of one. The original spirit of the Tea Parties didn’t require trust, because no one claimed to represent my interests.

Tea Party(tm)is now just a brand. It’s a vehicle for political wannabes to make their mark.

I posted this below, but wanted to run it by you because at first I thought, “A viable third party...” but then read, “No centralization...”

The link to the book I posted does NOT recommend a thrid party in any way, shape, or form.

Think of the free market economic system. You’ve got millions of independent business. Totally disconnected from each other. Economist Adam Smith recognized that even though these businesses were totally unrelated to each other, they still achieved a larger goal (an efficient economic system). He called the force behind this economic’s “invisible hand.”

The book applies that same thinking to politics. It doesn’t say you shouldn’t form any groups, but instead of a few mega-groups it envisions thousands of groups (like there are thousands of businesses) without any central leadership (is there a central leader for the free market system?).

What we have now are thousands of groups, but they are too generic in their goals. The key is to form groups around a very specific goal (just as small businesses are formed around a specific goal—to sell a specific product). When we start doing that we’ll create a system that that will have tremendous influence without having any central leadership. It will have an invisible force driving it (like Smith’s invisible hand).

The book presents a lot of concepts to create a political version of the free market system that works within the current political realities (like it or not, we’ve got two major parties, the GOP and Democrat, and trying to change that is tilting at windmills.)

We can though, change the way we interact with the two major policial parties.

I am curious since you are much in favor of this federation move...very enthused I might add...would lend me to wonder if you are working for or are intending to vote a third party candidate like Paul or some other? Just wondering as your posts seem politically driven rather than opinion driven.

There's a tremendous amount of energy in the Tea Party movement, and a just cause ... but there's no focus, and thus no possibility of the movement exerting a coherent, national political influence.

There are answers to your concerns in this book: The Conservative Hand

>>They’ve got to remain independent.

The Tea Party should build its Temples in the Hearts of Individuals.

I like the heart here. It’s close to my heart. We want freedom, not more "authority." If we live by our values, we don't need this unbelievable overload of law and authority, regulation and “regulators” (whatever they are).

We are first-hand witnesses of what figuratively may be called the patients running the asylum and what in fact is atheism run amok – tyranny. May the fire of this movement burn out the dross and purify our country like gold for a better future than our recent past.
