As I understand it, stores are only allowed a certain number of sales per year on Mountain House Cans. These prices are about as good as one will ever find.....north of 40% off.

THAT is precisely the reason why I love Mountain House cans.
Imagine if a SHTF scenario happens, and you go to the pantry, only to find rotten food.
For all of those who say MH is too expensive, I say “what is your life worth?”
You might want to take a look at foodinsurance.com - they have packages that last a month and are relatively portable. Don’t forget supplies for your dogs!
Oh my! Not sure I could make myself eat 40 year old food.
Grazing would be a better choice for me. :)
Sorry, I meant to say they have one month supplies in mylar bags that will keep for 7 years.
Thankss! This is the site Glenn Beck advertises. I’m taking a look now. They are certainly light enough and small enough to put in the trunk. It rounds out to under $4. a meal, Hmm.
AIO products are dehydrated and not Freeze-Dried so thats like comparing apples to a rotten tomato. With the dehydrated food it loses the nutritional value of the product and Freeze-Dried retains all the vital vitamins and minerals that you would find in your Vegetables & Fruits. Since you are the Survival Mom you should know how important it is to keep the nutritional value up especially in a disaster or an emergency. Also with cooking & preparing Dehydrated products can be troubling compared to a #10 can of Mountain House. I might just be thinking more practical cooking when faced in an emergency, Im sure that if an earthquake strikes Ill be happy and healthy with my supply of Mountain House that I got from The Ready Store. Plus I dont know if I trust AIO, I have never heard of that brand before Where Mountain House has been around for 30 years! Old enough to be kid tested & survival mother approved eh?
$400 would have bought about 23 cans of food from that site. If you had been a little more vigilant and rotated your food you wouldn’t have to throw them away.
Thank you!
Hi newbie. You signed up just today to post this snarky response? Pretty thin-skinned, aren’t you? Curious...since you are the “Ready Expert” are you connected in some way with The Ready Store? I can’t think of any other reason for your tone.
I own both freeze-dried and dehydrated foods and believe there is room for both in anyone’s food storage. Dehydrated foods take up less space, still maintain 75% or so of their original nutritional value, and there are some foods that just lend themselves better to dehydration than freeze drying. I think you’re exaggerating just a bit with your put-down, calling dehydrated foods, “rotten tomatoes.” :o)
Walton Feed sells plenty of dehydrated foods, and they are one of the leaders in the whole food storage industry.
As you know, most of these readiness/preparedness companies buy their dehydrated and freeze dried products from a handful of the same suppliers. AIO may be fairly new on the block, but the products they sell come from one of the most reputable suppliers in the country. The owner of AIO is able and willing to personally help her customers create a food storage plan. To a lot of beginners, that’s worth something.
A lot of people don't take this sort of discussion seriously.
On 3 occasions in South Florida when I lived there, we lost power for 8-11 days following hurricanes ripping apart the area. We always took stocking up seriously and always had emergency supplies ready.
When Wilma tore apart the area in 2005, we were comfortable with our own power supply, air conditioning, family movie night and wonderful family meals. It was like camping at home, except the roof was in the neighbor's yard... : /
On Sunday, we were sitting at home and I felt my first earthquake in over 20 years. The epicenter was a little over 200 miles away. You can at least see a hurricane coming.
These are excellent prices and I really hope our fellow FReepers are jumping on these deals. I hope I never have to use them for the intended purpose, but it wouldn't be the first time if I have to.
Cheers, be well and thanks for this thread!
Congrats on the prepping....and also congrats on the wife too! She looks like a model.
After traveling in South America, I can honestly say that the people there are some of the warmest people on the planet.....not to mention the best looking women!
Congrats!
Grazing would be a better choice for me. :)
There was nothing wrong with it. The hot Chocolate was better than what you can buy now.
Come to think of it, I was eating C rations in viet Nam that were older than I was. In Germany we ate dehydrated pork chops that were the equivalent of flossing all your teeth at once.
HA....I started buying on Nov 5, 2008.....figure I have at least a year’s worth of canned/pkgd goods....and other things that might be worth some MONEY for me in trading.
Was the stuff BAD, or did you just go by “use by” date? (I don’t follow use by dates.....that’s just something the gov’t implemented....I evaluate based on what’s in the can and if I open it, whether the seal was still there...and it smells okay.

“You sound like an obama supporter with a line like that.
Take from the people who took time to prepare.
Try it (with me) and you will wind up dead.”

this shocked me because I never thought tomatoes would do that...the jars were over the time limit...
