According to FOX News, the conservatives have won the day at the Texas Board of Education. Texas will now be teaching the true nature of America's Christian founding. The liberals got up and walked out of the meeting as the conservatives continued pounding away at the gavel, issue after issue.

Taking back our country, one state, one text book, twenty million young minds at a time!

Conservatives hold 10 of the 15 seats on the SBOE, though a couple of them are not strong social conservatives.

A little info:

Politics, sex, religion are all fair game at education board meeting

By Kate Alexander AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

State Board of Education members discussed it all Thursday, delivering a riveting drama as they trudged through another day of debate about social studies curriculum standards.

The ideological divide on the 15-member broke into a wide chasm by early evening, prompting board member Mary Helen Berlanga, D-Corpus Christi, to storm out of the meeting. ......

Board member David Bradley, R-Beaumont, characterized Berlanga's outburst as "poor boardmanship."

"Losing is hell," Bradley said. ......

Board member Barbara Cargill, R-The Woodlands, objected to a standard for a high school sociology course that addressed the difference between sex and gender. It was eliminated in a 9-to-6 vote........

In a wide-ranging debate, the board members grappled with the right to bear arms, the gold standard, hip-hop and genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan.

They also polished up references to the American "free enterprise" economic system and removed most mentions of "capitalism," a word that board member Ken Mercer, R-San Antonio, said has a negative connotation. ....

"Thus far, the liberal efforts to infiltrate, indoctrinate and saturate our social studies with narrow ideology have failed," Saenz said.

A preliminary vote on the standards is scheduled for today, with a final decision in May. .........

end snips

Thanks Jim for the link. Alas the NYT piece adds a few bits and pieces but only with what I suspect is considerable spin and bias. For example, it seems to me that a comparison of Lincoln’s and Davis’ inaugural addresses is a pretty intriguing and challenging educational exercise - the NYT reporter makes it sound like the mere inclusion of Davis is an endorsement of slavery.

In 2011, though the liberals will take over the board, as Don McLeroy was defeated by a liberal Republican on March 2, 2010. People in TX don’t know what’s happening on the state board of education, most don’t even know such a board exists.

Do you mean the kind of slavery now practiced in rural aareas all over the country with illegal aliens? No, I know you doin’t, but it exusts today, thanks to our open border policy. RW Reagan said without borders there can be no country. And he was right. Just an aside, bjc. Thanks for your post.

Who was that unattractive and overweight woman who walked out in a huff, pretending to be an offended Mexican? Was she really a Hispanic?

From what I heard, it was only the first reading of the action. It is common for many government bodies to have two readings of an ordinance or local law before final adoption.

A mighty blow indeed! But there will be a second hearing, I understand...so there must be a follow-through. Praise God!
