THE NUMBERS are in, and there can no longer be any doubt that President Obamas stimulus bill, passed just over a year ago, helped pull America from the brink of economic catastrophe, in part by creating millions of jobs that would not otherwise have existed. All of the major economic research firms that have studied the stimulus effect have come to this conclusion.
Still, though, its ridiculous to deny, as many have, that adding 2.5 million jobs was a poor use of government funds.
Stimulus opponents, often motivated by strictly ideological or political concerns, have repeatedly claimed that the bill didnt create a single job that the economy wouldnt have created anyway. This isnt true, and it should be beyond the bounds of political debate to claim it.

A Coakley voter who can’t get over it, one of those 6%ers.
Porkulus created or saved 12,301,240,506,743,283,493,828,495,394,283,596,384 jobs in the last 27 seconds!
Note from the article;”money to forestall layoffs of teachers, firefighters, and police officers, “,aka, people paid by the government.
Also,”Stimulus opponents, often motivated by strictly ideological or political concerns, have repeatedly claimed that the bill didnt create a single job that the economy wouldnt have created anyway. This isnt true, and it should be beyond the bounds of political debate to claim it.”
The stimulus actually created jobs that the economy would not have. The jobs that the economy would have created would be in the private, not the public sector. The jobs that the stimulus created mr Boston Globe Buffoon are exactly the jobs the economy needs least. Jobs with unsustainable pensions and benefits, the sort of jobs that are time bombs waiting to destroy cities and states. So mr. editor the real issue is not whether there were jobs created but rather the sort of jobs created. Perhaps if you understood the argument to begin with more people would pay to read your rag.
Just go on the major premise of the stimulus bill. Unemployment was guaranteed to not exceed 8 percent. It exceeded 10% (no doubt way more) and is still hovering around 10%. And they want another one.
Liars all. Die Globe, die. We don’t need you.
Lets say it created everyone of the 2.5 million jobs they say it did.
8 trillion dollars divided by 2.5 million jobs is:
$320,000 PER JOB.
What a GREAT government program!!!!!!
Divide $819,000,000,000 by 2,500,000 jobs. Do the math.
That works out to $327,600 per job. Government sure is efficient, isn’t it?
it should be beyond the bounds of political debate to claim it.<<<<< Ahh yes the science is settled !!!
Yes, it’s “beyond the bounds of political debate” (just like man-made global warming) and we’re citing “numerous respected economic think-tanks” for this conclusion (but don’t ask us for the details or our own proof of jobs created).
Boston Globe Editorial Board — need we say more?
It is a well known fact that 87.6% of statistics are made up and when it comes to government they are capable of making up as much as 87.6257%...so there!
That figure seems kind of low. You sure you didn’t just make that up?
It is a well known fact that 87.6% of statistics are made up and when it comes to government they are capable of making up as much as 87.6257%...so there!
Keep on hanging on to that theory, Boston Globe staff—and the only jobs that will be created for you will involve a fryolator.
It was more than that you right wing pig. Never cast doubt on the great one.
Actually, let me update that... CBO is now saying that total stimulus spending will be $862,000,000,000
$862,000,000,000 / 2,500,000 = $344,800 per job projected

“On January 26, 2010, the Congressional Budget Office revealed that this failure to create jobs has raised the laws price tag from the original $787 billion to $862 billion an increase of $75 billion.
The reason? Higher than expected unemployment and greater payouts of unemployment benefits, among other causes.”
It is an absolute impossibility for government to create jobs.
At least jobs that sustain a government or an economy.
All government service, is service, not a true job. They are drains on the economy, and must be sustained by a much larger number of jobs generating tax revenue to support the bureaucracies of government. I hesitate to place our warriors in this light, but they too must be supported by the populace, they are not self sustaining, despite the NEED for them.
Gosh. And here I was thinking it was a failure.
Obama is told he saved many Brazilian jobs. In reply, he says “See told ya the stimulus would do it. But exactly how much is a Brazilian?”
The media does not even try to hide their lies these days.
