Jeri Thompson blasted Fox News host Chris Wallace on the Fred Thompson show today, calling his joke that he hoped Sarah Palin would sit on his lap during an interview with him "inappropriate" and "insipid," and demanding "action from Fox.
Thompson, the wife of the former senator and presidential candidate, told POLITICO's Jonathan Martin that the remark, to Fox Business's Don Imus, amounted to misogyny, and that she was tired of seeing it from "these dirty old men" on Fox, a network that she said ought to be respectful of conservative women.
"Sarah Palin is now part of the Fox family," Thompson said on the show. "She deserves you all watching her back -- and I do not mean it literally."
Wallace, she said, "owes her an apology."
"Not only is she a national figure she deserves the respect that any other man would get in that situation," Thompson said, saying that her inbox was full of complaints from conservative women over the segment, and that the Palin group Team Sarah, as well as the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List, were dismayed by the segment.
"I hope that Fox does something about this, and they actually take this on, because it is not funny," Thompson said.

I was kidding.
I hope that was obvious.
Just think of it: when all the Liberals and Lefties get replaced by Conservatives or Indies, we’ll likely have mostly good looking people to look at, rather than this current gallery of road-kill bureaucrats. It will be a welcome change.
I'm the first one to howl about the evils of political correctness, but in this case, the comment was inappropriate and as noted, misogynistic. It's the kind of thing that will be dredged up by the OPFOR (opposing forces) on the other side during a Presidential campaign and used against us. It was stupid and insulting. If I was Todd, the smarmy POS would already be nursing a busted snout.
Jerri Thompson is right.
It was a stupid thing for Wallace to say.
I get the feeling some set Sarah Palin up as the Virgin Mary here on FR.
It as a light hearted joke folks.
No, we need to amp it up more.
Hypersensitivity is how the left won. It works. Hand it back to them tenfold. Hold them to their own standards.
That poster will give me nightmares.
He was joking as he complimented her. It bothers me that Sarah is so attractive — her intelligence boosts the value of her appearance. And then there’s the virtue.
Wallace did not ridicule her; he let everybody know that he admired her. I won’t fault him for that. Let the liberals make news out of it.
I have to admit, my 2nd thought on seeing the Chris Wallace comment was that no one but no one but no one would ever be longing for Hillary Clinton to sit on his (or her) lap!
[my first thought was that Sarah Palin could break any metrosexual TV talking head into little pieces if she felt annoyed by them]
Right.
It makes me nuts when a comment by a man is blown out of proportion because they admitted that they find the woman attractive.
If you don’t want the attention you don’t need to run to HR - it’s easy to say “if you don’t stop I’ll call your wife buddy” or “I’ll call you mother little boy” - all said without malice.
Too many women who feel they haven’t power use the victim tactic and it makes it worse for women who know how to handle it without it becoming blown out of proportion. Disclaimer: there are stalkers and there a just guys. Give the just guys a pinch on the cheek.
Another thing — Jerry Thompson, of all people, married a man twice her age and I doubt that the marriage was based on his good looks and her dowdy looks.
And for those who don’t know, I’m a woman who has been stalked numerous times. Two were arrested, the rest were sweetly rejected and moved on.
yes, and I don’t think this is an issue of “political correctness” at all
imagine someone talking that way on national TV about one’s own wife or mother (I mean unless we’re speaking of a woman who’s invited such attentions such as a Sharon Stone etc.)
Hope Todd Palin does get the chance to “school” Chris Wallace..... haaa, well, physical altercations do have serious legal implications nowadays......
The demoRAT pin-up women...OUCH! Butt ass ugly for sure! No wonder the deranged, mentally disturbed liberals hate Sarah Palin or other conservative (attractive) ladies. The demoRAT women are uglier than, well just plain butt ass ugly!
Whatever, dork.
hmmmmm.... I agree with you that probably a lot of situations in the workplace which immediately might get dragged to HR should simply be dealt with politely but firmly, and then with some escalation if the guy doesn’t get the message....
At the same time, I do think there’s quite a difference (to my mind anyway) between simply complimenting a woman as attractive, and wishing aloud before millions for her to sit on your lap..... as a man I can’t imagine saying something like that on national TV (well maybe about some actress or model who had already overtly sexualized her public life, but not about anyone who obviously expects to be treated with more respect) ..... it’s not that I think this should be some huge federal case, but I do think a brief, simple, and sincere apology is warranted.
I really don’t think it’s a liberal or conservative issue, or one of “political correctness” — certainly such a comment on TV would have been wildly unacceptable in the more conservative times before there was any political correctness of feminism etc.
C’mon Jeri; you’re starting to sound like the Femi-nazis.
Looks like the cast of a LESBIAN HORROR MOVIE.
Jeri sounds a bit shrill on this, and that is not good. But the joke was in bad taste.
Oh for goodness sake, half the men on FR would like to imagine Sarah sitting on their lap -- it's part of her appeal -- you use what you've got, in politics and life. Should these Freepers "apologize", too? Get a grip, Jeri, we're not whinny Liberals.
PS: I am a woman, too.
And PPS: women who know how to use guns don't (and shouldn't) whine!
*NEWSFLASH* Sarah Palin makes men glad to be men!
Chris Wallace is probably the envy of all men who watched the Palin interview. He did a very good job and Sarah obviously felt very comfortable.
WWSS (What Would Sarah Say?) My guess is she would probably laugh and say :::thank you:::
Much ado about nothing? You Betcha!
I think it belittles her - puts her on a sortof bimbo footing. It’s not unlike a remark the lefties say about her. I’m actually surprised he said it but it’s what happens on Imus - one must perform.
