Presidential nominee in 2008 faces GOP primary fight.
BY JOSEPH WEBER
Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, said in an interview Monday that his planned primary challenge to Sen. John McCain will portray the four-term incumbent as a not-so-conservative Republican who has "enabled" President Obama and his failed economic and security policies.
"I'm giving Arizona Republicans a clear choice between a consistent, common-sense conservative . . . or someone who describes himself as a maverick but is a moderate," the outspoken Mr. Hayworth told The Washington Times' "America's Morning News" radio show.
Mr. Hayworth, 51, quit his job Friday as a conservative radio host -- a show he has broadcast since losing his congressional seat in 2007 -- and said he is preparing to formally announce his run later this week.
While Mr. McCain has led the opposition to the president's health-care reform, Mr. Hayworth said, the party's 2008 presidential nominee has "enabled" Mr. Obama by supporting the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, first passed under President George W. Bush. And Mr. McCain's opposition to using "enhanced interrogation techniques" on suspected terrorist detainees paved the way for Mr. Obama to order the FBI to expand legal rights and protections to suspected terrorists, Mr. Hayworth said.
"We have to live up to the conduct of the signatories of the Geneva Convention, while our Islamic fascist enemy beheads our soldiers, the ultimate torture," Mr. Hayworth said.

Hayworth has an encyclopedia size worth of arguments he can use against McCain. McCain is really vulnerable what seems to be thousands of issues, especially in a right-tilted Republican primary.
DITTO!
Maybe JD needs to use the term Consititutional Conservative because I am seeing the Blue Dogs starting to jijack the commonsense label for themselves, I’m sure to confuse the TPers. Plus if Sarah continues on her promise over principle support for McCain, her coining the commonsense consevative moniker could muddy the stark differences between the two campaigns.
How ‘bout a FR poll on J.D. vs. McAmnesty?
Maybe?
:<)
McClame will be forced on record at the least. I think JD can do it.
I hope JD did not wait to long to announce. He should get a bump by just announcing.
jD Haworth is coming in at Mach 5 and will flame Obama’s enabler this fall!!! retire the RINO & send him home with his homo-marraige supporting wife & dingy dotter!
It is like running against a Democrat. In a Republican primary.
Whaddya say all after the Freeper-a-thon was arrange a MONEYBOMB for JD.
When J.D. spoke of Islamic Fascists beheading our soldiers (in context with a remark about the Geneva Convention rules) that sold me. I’m behind you J.D. Enough of the mealy-mouth ENABLER! Some $$ coming your way sir!
GO JD!
"[Conservatives are] going to destroy the [censored] [Republican] party... Why would I want to be the leader of a party of such [censored]?"
U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, UNKNOWN
"I think the Democratic Party is a fine party, and I have
no problems with it, in their views and their philosophy."
U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, 02 APR. 2004
"I have to tell you, [Obama] is a decent person, a person that you
do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States."
U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, 10 OCT. 2008
Palin will be down in Arizona to save McCain in the primary. She’s gonna spend considerable political capital on McCain’s behalf to help him win the primary.
And I have to tell YOU (McCain)...that statement sickens and disgusts me. JD will see to it that the good people of Arizona know EXACTLY who you are. About that, I have no doubts.
Like Dede and Hoffman.
I think McCain will go Independent if he loses the primary and will likely win that way.
Nice post. Nice comments.
Where I live now compared to my adoptive home state. This is getting to be like SEC football!
J. D. Hayworth BUMP.
