Sarah Palin campaign was a 'train wreck', insiders say (RINO Charges BARF Alert)

Fresh details emerged today of the backroom dramas as Sarah Palin alarmed her campaign managers with a string of gaffes during her run for vice-president in 2008.

Race of a Lifetime, a new book by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin which is serialised in The Times this week, reveals that advisers to John McCain were taken aback by how little Mrs Palin knew about politics and history when she was confirmed as Mr McCain's Republican running mate after a cursory, 12-hour selection process.

"You guys have a lot of work to do," Steve Schmidt, Mr McCain's campaign chief, is said to have told the experts he had recruited to tutor her. "She doesn't know anything."

Heilemann and Halperin write: "Palin couldn't explain why North Korea and South Korea were separate nations. She didn't know what the Fed [the Federal Reserve] did. Asked who attacked America on 9/11, she suggested several times that it was Saddam Hussein. Asked to identify the enemy that her son would be fighting in Iraq, she drew a blank. Later, on the plane, Palin said to her team: 'I wish I'd paid more attention to this stuff'."

They should make up more credible lies.

You hit the key point.

The media told me that Carter, Clinton, and Obama were all "brilliant" politicians. Frankly, I could do without such brilliance. I care about the core values of an individual. I don't expect the President to personally solve each and every problem. I want someone with integrity and principles who will steer the ship and allow other people to solve problems in accordance with good values.

That's all I want. Sarah would be marvelous in such a role.

I don’t believe she’ll be able to change enough minds to go on the ballot in 2012. I do think going on Fox will help give her more gravitas, but she would be of more help to conservatives by supporting and fund raising someone who is able to draw independents in 2012 (like Jim DeMint or Mike Pence)

Sometimes, the lack of predictable canned DC wisdom can be a breath of fresh air. Why are North Korea and South Korea separate nations? Who really attacked us on 9/11? Perhaps these are questions that should be asked anew.

I suppose how little Mrs Palin knew about politics = how poor she was at lying and having the presstitutes eat it up.

I'd also be willing to wager that she has forgotten more about American History than BO ever knew. Even if you are totally lazy (which she is not), you don't grow up as the daughter of frontier school teachers and fail to learn anything about history.

However, it is entirely possible to learn nothing about history when you are the bastard son of an atheist mother who sends you to a madrassas.

The authors are both Democrats, which by itself ought to give one pause. Steve Schmidt, I am quite convinced, is acting here as an advance Romney scout, doing his master’s dirty work by laying mines for the potential opposition.

I’ll take that “ignorant” woman from Alaska and day over the harvard educated moron in the White House Now!

She admitted she was new to running a major campaign and McLAME didn't help at all. In addition she didn't have Soros money behind her, a fawning media and a segment of the population automatically locked in for her.

The only thing I'd add to your comment was "...Harvard educated, Saudi financed, affirmative action moron in the White house now".

I will try and act shocked.

She is now a Fox News Contributor. This will give her a national platform with a vast reach and voters will hear her commonsense approach to issues. Thia will pave the way for her presidential run in 2012.

He's already threatened his daughters with abortions.

'nuff said about Obama. We really need to turn our attention to Steve Schmidt and his funny little stories, and they are funny. Did you read about Steve and the Log Cabin Republicans? How about Steve and Senator Craig, or Steve and Representative Mark Foley?

His boys Fur Shur.

Now, do we really need someone like Steve telling the rest of us how to run the Republican party?

I think she should do exactly what you say. But she also needs a team of competent talking heads to aggressively take it to the media on their own turf. Let those talking heads mix it up while she stays serious. It will work.

Sarah Palin alarmed her campaign managers with a string of gaffes during her run for vice-president in 2008.

Yes, it was really embarassing when she
mentioned that she hoped to get to all 57 states soon;
claimed that president FDR responded to the Wall Street crash by going on national television
said she didn't want her daughter "punished with a baby"
encouraged a quadriplegic injured war veteran to stand up.

All those embarrassing gaffes. Oh wait, that was Zero and Biden (which one of those geniuses is Beavis again?)
