SNIPPET: "Discussion: I first observed discussion of binary explosives on the al-Firdaws forum in January of 2007. In light of recent events I will post here my archive:"
SNIPPET: "Implementation: On Christmas Day, 2009, Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab boards a flight in Amsterdam, bound for Detroit, and on final descent he attempts to set off what was most likely a binary explosive. Thank goodness he either screwed up or had bad instructions, because the chemicals he was working with were evidently quite good."

“Saudi suspect in underwear bomb plots trained others, U.S. says”
By Phil Stewart
ASPEN, Colo. | Sat Jul 20, 2013 8:25am IST
(Reuters) -
SNIPPET: “”There is intelligence that he has unfortunately trained others and there’s a lot of effort to identify those folks,” Pistole told the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado.
Asked by Reuters afterward about the nature of that intelligence, Pistole said Asiri was believed to have trained a small number of people. He added that the intelligence was “credible.”
Believed to be in his early 30s, Asiri, who survived a U.S. drone missile attack in 2011, has drawn scrutiny for his skill at fashioning hard-to-detect bombs and hiding them in clothing or equipment.”

“Al Qaeda Threat: Officials Fear ‘Ingenious’ Liquid Explosive”
By RHONDA SCHWARTZ (@rhondaABC) and JAMES GORDON MEEK (@meekwire)
Aug 5, 2013, 8:57 PM
SNIPPET: “The officials said the new technique is believed to have been developed by the Yemen-based al Qaeda affiliate al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), home to notorious alleged bomb maker Ibrahim al-Asiri. Al-Asiri is suspected of being the mastermind behind several devious explosive devices including the underwear bomb and surgically implanted body bombs.
Al-Asiri was listed today among Yemen’s 25 top terrorists, who the Yemeni government said were planning to carry out operations in the capital, Sana’a. The Yemeni government is offering 5 million Yemeni rials, or $23,000, for information leading to the capture of any of the terrorists.”
SNIPPET: “In addition to the new liquid bomb, a U.S. official said American spy agencies are concerned the attack could use what some call “Frankenbombers,” suicide bombers who could carry an improvised explosive device sewn into their body cavity.
Sunday on “This Week,” Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-MD the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee said the intercepted communications called for a “major attack.””

“In New Video, Al-Shabab Justifies Woolwich Attack, Urges Muslims In West To ‘Make Their Choice Today,’ And Follow Footsteps Of Nidal Hasan, Mohammad Merah, And Farouq Abdulmuttalab, And ‘Brothers In ... Texas And Boston,’ And To Read Inspire Magazine”
SNIPPET: “On October 17, 2013, the Somali Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Al-Shabab Al-Mujahideen released an hour long video titled “Woolwich Attack: It’s an Eye for an Eye.” The video is about the May 22, 2013, Woolwich (London) attack in which British soldier Lee Rigby was murdered in daylight by two men. In the video, Al-Shabab portrays the attack as a logical response to the U.K.’s crimes against Muslims around the world. Al-Shabab urges Muslims living in the West to follow the footsteps of the Woolwich attack perpetrators, as well as the perpetrators of other attacks in the West, such as Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter; Faisal Shahzad, the Times Square bomber; and Umar Farouk Abdulmuttalab, the “Underwear Bomber.” The video also features several British Muslims from different ethnic backgrounds who traveled to Somalia and trained and fought alongside Al-Shabab.”
