WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats are poised to pass a landmark health care bill that could define President Barack Obama's legacy and usher in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in U.S. history.

"We stand on the doorstep of history," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat. "We recognize that, but much more importantly, we stand so close to making so many individual lives better."
The vote Thursday on the bill extending health care coverage to some 31 million uninsured Americans brings Obama closer to achieving his top domestic priority. The White House and Congress have now come farther toward the goal of a comprehensive overhaul of the U.S. health care system than any of their predecessors.
But the final step may be the hardest: reconciling the Senate bill with a significantly different version already approved in November by the House of Representatives.

I do not agree with Lieberman on much of anything, but on this issue, some of the ‘Yea’ votes were bought with payola, and some of them were extorted or coerced by threat,
Nelson accepted payola for Nebraska - in lieu of Offut AFB being closed and worse. He should have stood up and made the tactics fully public, and dared them to follow through on them. His failure, IMHO.
Lieberman on the other hand...was not about to vote for it. I have it on good authority (my source has been absolutely correct about everything they have share with me) that, through proxies (SEIU/ACORN or the like) the well-being and life of Lieberman’s wife, Hadassah was threatened.
It was made clear that it was going to look like just some “random” unforeseeable thing that happens in life - no suspicious markers to call attention - other than the fact of who it happened to.
Look for Lieberman’s probable retirement ahead of his next election, unless “We, the people” sweep ALL of these corrupt b*st*rds in the meanwhile.
Had he retired ahead of this vote, they would have made certain to appoint a guaranteed ‘Yea’-voting Demo...
So many of these vermin need to be in Gitmo, wearing orange jumpsuits, eating “mystery meat” with brown gravy, and pondering their misdeeds for the remainder of their sorry lives - no retirement pensions, no conjugal visits, no media appearances, no more influence to peddle...
