WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats are poised to pass a landmark health care bill that could define President Barack Obama's legacy and usher in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in U.S. history.
Ahead lie complex talks with the House to reach final legislation in the new year.
"We stand on the doorstep of history," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat. "We recognize that, but much more importantly, we stand so close to making so many individual lives better."
The vote Thursday on the bill extending health care coverage to some 31 million uninsured Americans brings Obama closer to achieving his top domestic priority. The White House and Congress have now come farther toward the goal of a comprehensive overhaul of the U.S. health care system than any of their predecessors.
But the final step may be the hardest: reconciling the Senate bill with a significantly different version already approved in November by the House of Representatives.

The democrats have learned nothing from the last 100 years of economic history which conclusively proved that heavy income redistribution causes sluggish economic growth, high unemployment, and lower standards of living. This legislation was passed because of democrat ideology, emotion, and big democrat egos that always like to do the opposite of what conservatives want even when conservatives have exactly the right ideas for America.
This bill is just the beginning of huge tax increases on Americans to pay for the massive spending binge by this congress in 2009 and uncontrolled entitlement spending in the years ahead. All three forms of taxation will be increasing in the next few years: direct taxes, higher interest rates, and higher inflation. That has to happen to pay for all the spending in the pork stimulus bill, uncontrolled entitlement spending, massive unproductive federal bureaucracies, and now this massive health care spending bill. Eventually the young people under 40 are going to wake up when they get hit with the big tax bills and higher inflation, and they will finally realize that liberal baby-boomers in congress are very hazardous to the economic well-being of younger Americans. When the younger people wake up then you'll see a big political shift back towards fiscal conservatism over the next five years. A storm is building that will sweep many liberal democrats out of congress in the next two elections.
They have engaged in tyranny.
Ten generations of Americans are watching to see if the freedom they bequeathed to us was worth the cost.
We dare not fail their sacrifice.

When the younger people start seeing taxes and inflation shoot upward to pay for all this democrat ideology, that’s when the GOP will make a big comeback. The Republican party has a very good chance of winning control of the House in 2010 if we just keep pounding on economic issues and keep pushing for lower taxes, lower spending, and more economic freedom for Americans.

Think about that for a minute.... really think about it. Does anyone seriously think there is a shred of hope when 60 people can control 318 million and nothing happens. The sky is the limit, those 60 will do whatever they want. American’s are too timid, spoiled and dumbed down. They have been planning this for a generation. Oh come on, they MAKE you pay for anything. People pay out of fear, afraid to stand up to them. If people weren’t cowards there would be a full blown tax revolt and it would bring these tyrants to their knees.
Because it’s really not about health care. It’s about taxes, redistribution, fat chunks of OUR money for them to steal. Also they don’t want it to go into effect until 2013-2014 because of the 2012 elections. That tells you how bad the bill is and how much people are going to flip out when and IF it does go into effect. If anyone pays a dime of taxes or any other money assessed by this bill, they deserve to be a boot licker for the rest of their lives. NOW is the time to take a stand.

Just the passage of this bill has raised the hackles of people I *never* thought would take a political stand (beyond voting) in their life.

100% correct. Given what the GOP has become in a few election cycles, we'll see GOP politicians fighting to "own" certain elements and expansions of the nationalized medical service. You can bet on that.
The promise of the US is over and with it, the flowers of The Enlightenment. Great Britain shrugged off the Magna Charta a few weeks ago and today the US has officially become a Marxist regime.
