CNSNews.com) - Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) said the White House and the Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives have been pressuring him not to speak out on the "compromise" abortion language in the Senate version of the health care bill.
They think I shouldnt be expressing my views on this bill until they get a chance to try to sell me the language, Stupak told CNSNews.com in an interview on Tuesday. Well, I dont need anyone to sell me the language. I can read it. Ive seen it. Ive worked with it. I know what it says. I dont need to have a conference with the White House. I have the legislation in front of me here.
The Michigan Democrat succeeded last month in getting 64 House Democrats to join him in attaching his pro-life amendment to the House version of the health-care bill. The Stupak amendment, as the provision is known, would prohibit the federal government from allocating taxpayer money to pay for any part of any health insurance plan that covers abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is in danger.

Well, those 64 Dims will soon reveal whether they truly hold those pro-life convictions, or whether they were just useful idiots in getting Obamacare through the House by only 220 to 215 votes. If they have real convictions, the Senate language on abortion will be changed significantly, or Obamacare won't pass the House again. And if the language is changed, we'll see if any pro-abortion folks in either chamber rebel and vote against the bill.
And thus Satan's design behind socialism is revealed.
I remember reading about Gov. William Bradford's failed experiment with socialism back in the early days of the Plymouth Colony. I think he wrote that their socialist ways of doing things had put their judgement in place of God's, and in light of that, it was perfectly understandable to see why it failed.
Have a cup of Brawndo. This is what BO and company have in store for us. We are already well on our way.
In Idiocracy, EVERYONE was stupid, even the leadership.
I think what BO and company have in mind is more of a feudal system in which they are the elite ruling class nobels and we are the serfs, each group having different rules and privileges (or lack thereof).
“Even the leadership is stupid”...and this would be different from the current situation how?
Democrats have no principles or morals. I think his new revelation will be that 99% percent of the bill is just too good for the American people to pass up so he has to vote for it.
The Lives of Others movie should be required viewing for all ( especially high school and college students ).
Sadly, in Amerika, the Stasi does not have to wiretap your home and skulk around corners. We are doing it voluntarily to ourselves. The Stasi already exists in the “well-intentions” of political correctness.
It is sickening the way this once great country is enslaving itself. And all for the betterment of mankind, society, tolerance and all that ilk.
We have come to the point that there is not one honorable democrat among the 60 that would rescue us from total government control. Not one. Not even one.
The most blessed irony of all would be the mountain of 50,000,000 American babies stopping the advance of the Left’s evil take-over of the USA.
You missed the obvious. The new taxes will be paid by the open-border immigrants.
I would be suprised if it did. The 'rats have more leeway in losing votes in the House than they do in the Senate.
Regardless of what is in there, regardless of all the hand-wringing, feigned indecision and "negotiating", no matter what comes out in the end, there will be just enough "D" votes for it to pass both the House and the Senate. No matter what.
This is already happening at work places that have “Wellness Programs.” They infer that your fat coworker is the reason for YOUR higher premiums, even though the fat coworker doesn’t have any health issues. And just who gets to define “fat?”
They also charge more for smokers even though the health effects of smoking don’t usually manifest themselves until you are old enough (or older) to be on Medicare.
And don’t even think about getting old.
But never do they mention the risky lifestyle of gays and the IMMEDIATE claims for treating HIV and many other VD infections.
I hope that Stupak does not have a price, but I am convinced that these face-to-face meetings with Obama are about bribes and/or threats. In addition to the payoffs senators have gotten for their states, I really do believe that the leftover stimulus money is being used for personal bribes to senators. Those who face tough re-election fights are being given nice nest-eggs as a golden parachute.
[been pressuring him not to speak out on the “compromise” abortion language]
INTERPRETATION: Give me some of that stimulus money and I’ll shut up.
Agreed. These types of punitive fines always seem to go after fat people and smokers, regardless of the dollar value for any actual claims they file.
It would be so funny if this insanity was taken out to its logical conclusion. In addition to what you said above, women who are of childbearing age would be made to pay more because of the costs of prenatal care. Women who are beyond childbearing age would be made to pay more because of the cost of post-menopausal care. Anyone who lives in a ghetto would be made to pay more because they are more likely to be a victim of violent crime that requires an ER visit. Very funny indeed.
Nah. The government will simply print all the money it needs.

Health-Care Reform 2009
Report: Bill would reduce senior care Medicare cuts approved by House may affect access to providers

A plan to slash more than $500 billion from future Medicare spending -- one of the biggest sources of funding for President Obama's proposed overhaul of the nation's health-care system -- would sharply reduce benefits for some senior citizens and could jeopardize access to care for millions of others, according to a government evaluation released Saturday.
The report, requested by House Republicans, found that Medicare cuts contained in the health package approved by the House on Nov. 7 are likely to prove so costly to hospitals and nursing homes that they could stop taking Medicare altogether.
AND if you are Retired Military on Tri Care for Life, which many Millions are, you are in for a nearly $5,000 NEW fee along with the increased premiums for the REDUCED Medicare benefits.

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollees cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.)

They have 60 Democrats. They will vote and turn against the People. We have a rouge government on our hands. They are Madmen.
This is not new, and comes as no surprise to the Dem leadership, as Stupak has been saying repeatedly, from early on, that he has the votes in the Democratic pro-life caucus to kill this bill if it comes back from conference without what was formerly known as the Hyde language. They have been lying about federal money to pay for death from the very beginning, knowing full well that the Capps amendment securing payment for abortion was adopted in committee whereas Stupak's amendment, Hyde, was not allowed to be brought up for vote, nor was it allowed for vote in the full House. It was only when that last House vote was taken, Stupak and his pro-life colleagues necessary for passage to allow the bill to pass Constitutional muster (all bills raising revenue must originate in the House) that they relented and allowed his amendment on the Floor.
It comes down to the final conference language -- if Stupak and his colleagues are not satisfied with their specific denial language, they will kill the bill. If Stupak is satisfied, the pro-death Dems will kill the bill. If the public option language is not included in the final conference report, the Progressives and way-left Dems will kill the bill. All these factions must be satisfied and they are are all opposing each other.
