President Palin: Bush Strategist Thinks It's Possible
The Atlantic ^ | November 24, 2009 | Chris Good and Marc Ambinder

Posted on 11/24/2009 5:07:48 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

"Like it or not, if Sarah Palin decides to seek our nation's highest office, she has a shot," Matthew Dowd, the chief strategist for the Bush/Cheney '04 campaign, writes in today's Washington Post, before offering Palin a list of advice on how to get there.

Dowd draws a parallel between Palin and Obama, in that each are beloved by members of their own party, and not liked so much by members of the other:

Polls show that Palin's favorability numbers are a mirror image of those of Obama. She is respected and loved by the Republican base, while Democrats despise her. Granted, independent voters have significant reservations about her capability to be president, and this would be a hurdle in the general election. But to win the Republican nomination, Palin needs only to get enough support from the base to win early key states. Already, in nearly every poll today, she has a level of support that makes her a viable primary candidate. Just look at the crowds and the buzz her book tour is drawing.

And it's true: Obama is liked by 88 percent of Demcorats and disliked by 93 percent of Republicans, according to his latest major favorability poll, conducted by Research 2000 for Daily Kos.(continued)

“Did this strategist tell Bush that amnesty was a good idea? I sadly dropped Bush after he pushed for amnesty with Juan McCain and Mel “scarface” Martinez and other RINO garbage”

Do you know what Palin’s view on immigration is? Many may be surprised but it very similiar to the “trash” you speak of above.

If she helps bring a huge win in 2010, she will be more popular than ever.

Pray for America and Our Troops

She has already done more for her country - giving them hope of bringing USA back to it's conservative roots. Let others follow in her footsteps, she doesn't need to lead any potential candidates by the hand! Nice (weak) try at suggesting that would be better for our country

I probably would have entertained your line of thought, if you hadn't added that little personal attack at the end. As it stands, I see you as just another obnoxious person, who thinks they know exactly what should be done, and thinks every one that doesn't agree with them as inferior...just like a liberal.

And for God's sake, if you are going to be obnoxious and passive aggressive, put forth a coherent argument! She's already done more for her country than what/who? And who said anything about leading potential candidates around by the hand; you assume to think that is what I meant?

Your argument is that of the young bull that says "Let's run down that hill and get us a cow", all the while the old bull is saying, "Naw let's mosie on down and get them all".

She co-opted McCain’s position in the campaign. I believe her position now is illegal means illegal.

“I believe her position now is illegal means illegal”

I have yet to hear her new official stance, because if true, that is nothing more than an unadulterated flip flop

Additionally, her stance was always a path to citizenship (which is a sexier way to say amnesty when you are not threatening deportation) prior to becoming VP nominee. She demonstrated this by failure to take any action on sanctuary cities in Alaska after winning the governorship, even in the face of criticism by the right.

Oh no— Lou Dobbs. I appreciate this opportunity to inform you that he is one of the great Americans of our time. He has fought for years to preserve the integrity of our Border and to save this country from “free trade” one world which now has destroyed every industry we use to have except hamburgers.

She can help a lot in 2010, BUT Sarah Palin must run for the Presidency in 2012 because neither our nation nor Sarah can afford to wait until 2016.

Read her book, she was essentially forced to play much the same tune as McCain. BUT if Sarah Palin is the Presidential candidate she can call her own tune.

You expect to defeat a sitting president with a commentator with no executive experience? No Senator has ever beaten a sitting president, and it's been awhile since Harding became the only senator ever to beat a governor for the White House.

Which is another reason, in a long line of reasons, why John McCain was such a ghastly choice.

(From another site)

Rush Limbaugh interviewed Sarah Palin this morning. He only had 30 seconds left and asked her how she felt about illegal immigration. She said she couldn’t say much in 30 seconds, but that “it is called ‘illegal’ immigration because it is ILLEGAL!” And that we have to do something about it, starting with the border states. Up until now, she really hadn’t voiced an opinion on it, probably because McCain was always kissing up to “God’s children” to get the Hispanic vote.

I think the jury is still out on where Palin is going to fall on immigration.

After reading only the first hundred pages of her book, I can see why the Republican establishment in Alaska hated her guts and did everything they could to thwart her vice presidental campaign. She really cleaned house! She is a true public servant, not a self-servant at the public trough. Read her book if you haven’t already. Lots of insight (well, so far, like I said, I’ve only read less than 100 pages, but it’s been a very good read).

That's precisely what Bob Dole thought in 1994 when Clinton saw the Republicans take control of the Congress for the first time in 40 years. How'd that work out?

After the 94 Elections Clinton and the media went into overdrive to rehabilitate his image, Morris (that rat) got him to move to the center on a couple of issues so he could re-cast himself as a “moderate” for 96.

I’m sure the media will try to rehab Obama before 2012, I’m not so sure Obama is willing to rehab himself, he’s really got a tin ear for politics and I’m not sure someone will tell him to stop being a Communist for a little while. The alternative media and the internet are a lot more powerful now, but make no mistake about it the lamestream media and other whores still pack a punch.

I still think Palin is going to wipe the floor with Obama in 2012.

Oh, she'll be more popular than ever anyway. The Democrats have already sealed their own fates for 2010, and there's little that Sarah needs to do to push them over the edge.

They're running full-speed into a hole, all by themselves.
