Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.

The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.

The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.

As an officer (even as an MD), he would most likely have at a minimum a SECRET security clearance. Unless things have changed drastically in the last 14 years (I retired in 95), you had to be able to have a SECRET clearance in order to be commissioned.

Our troops suffering from a non-CIC & ROE’s that leave them as sitting ducks and aware that if they get pinned down, they might not be rescued. Has this ever happened before in the US military?

NOW, they have to look at one another at home and wonder if their fellow soldier is a traitor who might open fire on them.

This better be a wake-up call for the military brass to start some arm-twisting with Washington.
