I consider myself one of those disgruntled registered voters who prefers to consider himself a conservative rather than a Republican. In fact, I had been leaning toward throwing my support behind candidates from lesser-known third parties. That changed today after a conservative friend of mine shared a copy of an e-mail he sent recently to a local representative of a conservative, third-party group seeking candidates to run against Democrats and Republicans in future elections.

No, the quotes are great. Thanks again.

There’s an old Travelling Wilbury’s quote that sticks in my head “Sometimes yer better off not knowing how much you’ve been had.” I happen to think things are much worse than people think. It’s all the way to the core. And it’s all water under the bridge. You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.
This is nonsense.
There are only a handful of truly conservative Republicans willing to stand up against the slide into socialism. All the Democrats seem willing to race there and half the Republicans are walking there. Whether we fall into socialism depends upon enough men and women with the courage and guts to speak out against it. It does NOT depend on me supporting people like John McCain or Olypian Snowe to stop the Democrats, because these people are JUST as guilty as the rest of the Democrats.
It is absolutely wrong to think that dividing your vote/or financial support will stem this growing socialist tide. It will not unless we support people who are willing to take on the tough choices that face this country. To say that we will elect ANY Republican just because theyll stop the Democrats simply is not true.
The Republican had their chance and blew it. I am not going to give money or support to the likes of a party who does not have the guts to stand on principles. Nor am Im going to give my money/support to a party who is going to turn around and support someone like Snowe just because shes electable. What good is that?
I want a party that clearly details how they plan on getting us out of this mess. It doesnt matter if they win or lose. What matters is that they speak out. Im tired of a party that wants to look at including people. Instead they should develop some backbone and say, This is what we stand for and then let the people come to them. Believe me, you will have all sorts of people coming.
My money and time will go to those who stand for principles. If we lose then we gave it our best shot as the country slides into socialism.
Yeah, I hear ya. If it wasn’t for the knowledge I have that God still sits firmly on His Throne, ruling in the affairs of men, I would despair for all I see going on around me.
"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever."
However, as you may see from my other posts on this thread, the problem is far worse than just a corrupt party. It's a failed system. Until we start over, we're playing around at the margins.
Well I don't see any evidence that they are going to do that, and they are in charge of that process.
Rush has been trying to tell us for years that the Republican Establishment, hates Christians and the little people. Just look at the treatment of Sarah Palin.
Voting for a RINO is wasting your vote. The 3rd Party is the only way to go in this corrupt age. There is no two party system—it died. A 3rd party will force the GOP to the right. We need reforms! We need to end corruption.
All things that God does are good, even His infliction of rightful justice upon men and nations.
But, I often use that same Jefferson quote as well.
Haley was successful. The "new" leadership isn't doing very much today.
I don't think the problem is "old generals". It's that most of the old Republicans still in politics or office are RINOS. ie: Mclame, E.D. Dole, etc. Barbour is conservative to his core.
Depends on how you define success. He certainly got more Republicans elected. But where did that get us over the long haul?
Support Conservative candidates in your republican primary, tell your friends to get involved with that instead of running a third party candidate.
ONLY run, support a third party candidate as a last resort where 1) It is reasonable to win, and 2) Both the Dem and Rep (won in primary) are Liberals.
An opportunity. A chance. Not his fault the the Republicans blew it.
Which portions of the anti-federalist papers resonate most?
The basic idea which resonates with me is that the Constitution created a centralized government that would not be contained, and that obliterated state sovereignty. That the safeguards sounded nice in theory, but would not hold in practice. That the supremacy of the national gubmint would lead to tyranny. That it was way more gubmint than was necessary. That judicial tyranny was a threat to liberty. etc.
Impossible day to carry on a serious discussion. Would like to know your interest in the anti-feds, etc.
I won’t support a third party presidential candidate in 2012, unless that party has a significant number of incumbents on the ballot at all levels, including incumbent Representatives and Senators, and has earned consideration.
In 2010, only Conservative candidates will get my support. If the Republican party runs solid conservatives, they have my vote. If they run RINOs, they can expect my strong, principled opposition. It is at least equally likely that the RINO will split "moderate votes" with the Liberal/Marxist DemocRAT and enable the true conservative to win.
The decision has to be made on a district by district basis. My old district (before I moved) in Georgia is an example. It is a conservative district, with no real chance for a Democrat to win. However, the primary is crowded now. If that fact, combined with an open primary, results in a RINO on the ballot for that district, there is a good chance that the Conservatives in the district could unite behind a single conservative candidate and win the general election with a single, strong, independent conservative candidate. That wouldn’t be good for Republicans, but I believe it might be better for the Republic.
