Colorado: Parents win against Obama Propaganda. Here is how they FORCED a student Opt-out 4 9/8/09

Posted on 09/03/2009 7:51:53 AM PDT by steve0

The purpose of this thread is to secure a commitment from each local Principal to provide an opt-out so that no one is forced to endure Obama's subtle, presumptuous speech. Below, I will provide a sample of reasonable letters we want the Principal to sign. If refused, we know where they stand and will take the appropriate action against them. Here is an article of how they roll in Colorado. http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/09/douglas_county_school_allows_p.php It would be useful if the only comments on this thread are how to do this, report your results and contact information for the press to report and follow-up on.

the child will be sent to our media center to engage in an individual literacy activity directed by the teacher
*******

Yes, the translation of the above educrat-speak is: the child will be sent to the library to read a book.
*******

Jargon extraordinaire! This kind of dual language reminds me of other eras when cognoscenti used language that was above the vernacular in order to maintain mystique and power.

Said power groups usually met their downfall by not being able to keep the “lower orders” from developing new technologies.

This means that the Leftist American Education System might be approaching the same demise as Leftist commercial media are facing now.

More and more parents are seeing the superior values of home schooling and co-op based community schooling. Children love it, too.

"Listening with a purpose: personal responsibility, goals, persistence. Teachers might ask pairs of students to create a word bank from the web of any one of the terms (personal responsibility, goals, or persistence) at the top of a double‐column style notes page. On the right‐hand side, students could take notes while President Obama talks about personal responsibility, or goals, or persistence, trying to capture direct quotations. At the end of the speech, students could then write the corresponding terms from the word bank in the left hand column, to increase retention and deepen their understanding of an important aspect of the speech."

Alternatively, they could make a 5 by 5 grid of commonly used terms by B.O. and play BULLS**T BINGO.

Sent emails to grade school teacher for one child, and school principal for our 2 middle-school kids.

Grade school teacher said they won’t be participating in any way.

Middle school principal said “the district has elected to participate in this unprecedented event.”

I have a call in to the district superintendent.

Just heard back from superintendent. He says the district had decided to leave it up to the individual schools whether or not to participate.

He also said he had "just sent" a notice to all principals that they must offer an opt-out option for kids, allowing them to go to the library instead of watching the address.

This isn't a perfect solution, as would be not showing the speech at all, but I think they have been taken to account by parents like me, and forced to make some concessions.

I'll be taking both of my kids to lunch on the 8th, from 11:30 to 1:00. We'll have a worthwhile discussion while we eat.

Here is one teachable moment I would like Obama to talk about.
I am fine with the 9/8/09 speech if he will discuss this and we get to hear from an alternative point of view.

It’s amazing how quickly Americans rose up to this latest ploy by OBOZO - speaks highly that our American spirit is alive and well!!!

It also means that no future president will ever be able to address America's students in a nationwide speech ever again.

Community Service is the whole point of the Obama speech. The speech is the kick off for his recruiting efforts. They are starting with the grade schools to brain wash the kids into trusting politicians who promise them an easy life if they stay in school and cooperate with the "leaders".

It won't do any good to keep your kids home because the rest of the students will be told that those families who don't participate are not cool and don't want you to succeed.

Here's another letter which adds the part of the video being available from the White House website, which I just emailed to ALL of the trustees and superintendent of my school distinct:

Dear Board of Trustees,

For years, I have trusted your guidance as elected representatives of the children and parents of ______ ISD. Normally, I do not get involved in local school board politics, but I and other parents cannot ignore events unfolding on Tuesday, Sept 8. At the bottom of this email are some of the reasons why < provided is a link to the "I Pledge" video, a copy of the PreK-6 Menu of Classroom Event, etc >.

AS I'M SURE YOU ALREADY KNOW, many parents are very upset at the speech that is to take place on Tuesday, following the 3-day Labor Day weekend, leading up to Sept 11 (which is NOT National Service Day).

Let me be clear: I do not want my child exposed to the speech on Tuesday. I do not want it rebroadcast to my child at a later date without my prior knowledge.

NO AMOUNT OF RE-ASSURANCES OF A CHANGE IN THE CONTENT OF THE SPEECH FROM THE WHITE HOUSE WILL CHANGE MY DECISION ON THIS.

It is my understanding that the address will be archived on the White House website for students and families to view at their convenience if they so desire. Therefore, no schools or teachers in _____ ISD should not be required (or allowed) to interrupt their lessons to show the broadcast — the school schedule is busy enough already. If children have enough time for this, then they certainly have time to be sick, en masse, on Tues, Sept 8 as well.

Also, it is not good enough to offer children an “alternative” to watching the speech in class. Given the “choice” of watching a video, or going to Study Hall and risk being ostracized by students who remain, it's obvious what children will “choose.” Again, the speech will be available when the children are on their own time at home, via replay from the official White House website, if the children and families “choose” to view it — not during official school hours.

I respectfully ask that you notify ALL parents in the school district of your intentions by the end of the school day on Fri, Sept 4. Please note that NO response will be perceived as your intention to have the speech broadcast on Tuesday.

Let's please keep the focus of ______ ISD on education, not indoctrination.

I’m so grateful that my boys are no longer school age and that my granddaughter isn’t yet fifteen months!

That stated, I’d have NO Problem telling the school why my sons would NOT be in attendance on Sept 8th and that when they returned on the 9th, there had better not be retribution of any type unless they wanted a law suit visited upon them.

Interesting... KFOR - Channel 4 out of Oklahoma City just called me to poll me about what's going on with this address.(electronic poll not a live person) I don't have school age kids and I live close to 90 miles outside of OKC even though their station does broadcast in my area. This is the first and only time in the 8 years I've lived here that I've ever been contacted by Ch. 4.

Needless to say I voted my displeasure about this taking place anyway. They also asked about my political leanings as in whether I was liberal, conservative or moderate; democrat, Republican or Independent; male/female, age demographic and gender.

There are already reports of children being called rascist for opting out. Any future letters, where this might be applicable, might want to point out that potential problem.

It also means that no future president will ever be able to address America's students in a nationwide speech ever again.

Whyever would they need to?

As he has always been, the President is free to address the issue of education in any forum he might choose -- Congress, a televised address to the nation, a press conference, an interview with the press, etc.

Moreover, President's have always been -- and will continue to be -- free to address students specifically within the context of such speeches.

Indeed, Presidents have always been -- and will continue to be -- free to accept invitations and make commencement addresses, the primary audience of which is...students.

Thre is no good purpose served by an uninvited President focussing an "education" address to grade school children in a "national classroom". The only identifiable purpose is indoctrination.

No other President would've even thought to produce such an act.

Whyever would they need to?

When Ronald Reagan addressed America's students following the Challenger crash, was that a bad thing? When George H.W. Bush had a nationwide student address on drugs, was that a bad thing? Neither was necessary, both were good ideas. But now? Any future Republican president who might want to do it will run into the same boycotts and charges of indoctrination that Obama is getting.
