Colorado: Parents win against Obama Propaganda. Here is how they FORCED a student Opt-out 4 9/8/09

Posted on 09/03/2009 7:51:53 AM PDT by steve0

The purpose of this thread is to secure a commitment from each local Principal to provide an opt-out so that no one is forced to endure Obama's subtle, presumptuous speech. Below, I will provide a sample of reasonable letters we want the Principal to sign. If refused, we know where they stand and will take the appropriate action against them. Here is an article of how they roll in Colorado. http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/09/douglas_county_school_allows_p.php It would be useful if the only comments on this thread are how to do this, report your results and contact information for the press to report and follow-up on.

Good thread with some ideas of how other schools are handling this intrusion/indoctrination. Maybe you’ll see something you can use.

the child will be sent to our media center to engage in an individual literacy activity directed by the teacher

Is that what we used to call “study hall” or Library? Why don’t they just say so!

Yes, the translation of the above educrat-speak is: the child will be sent to the library to read a book.

And the reason they don't just say that is they want to sound smarter than they are so they clutter their writing with useless words.

Does anyone know how long this has been planned? I find it ironic that the Marine at one of the townhall meetings told a politician to “stay away from my kids!” The next thing we know Obama is going right at the kids.

I emailed Limbaugh asking for him to do a counter-programming address to the youth of the nation. I hope his assistants catch my email.

That's a good idea.

Our morning show talk guy suggested that children be allowed to view a Limbaugh “response” to Obama’s video appearance. I wonder how the NEA would react to that suggestion.

And btw, have there been Any Republican Responses to any Obama speeches since Jan 20? I seem to have missed them.

For eight years, every half hour at the “news break”, Ann Compton and other ABC/CBS ‘reporters’ have told us what Mr Bush was doing wrong, by quoting a democrat, or even playing the soundbite of Schumer, Pelosi, Reid, etc criticizing whatever was happening at the White House - their beat.

Now every half hour we hear the Obama position on whatever is happening at the White House - nary a criticism is ever voiced or quoted.

According to the Texas Parents" Bill of Rights,
"Exemption From Instruction

(a) A parent is entitled to remove the parent’s child temporarily from a class or other school activity that conflicts with the parent’s religious or moral beliefs if the parent presents or delivers to the teacher of the parent’s child a written statement authorizing the removal of the child from the class or other school activity."

That video should be available at the White House dot gov website, since apparently it was paid for with taxpayers’ dollars.

I say ‘should’, but I doubt if it will be there.

Come back Rush. Here is a modified proposed letter: Dear Doctor ______, Barack Obama has announced that he wishes to address all school students on September 8th, an historic first as no previous President ever demanded. The U.S. Department of Education sent out letters to School Principals nationwide. They have prepared "educational" program material to go along with this. Creepily and ominously the letter and the lesson plan material do NOT mention what the topic of the speech is to be. As one of the preparatory materials for teachers provided by the Department of Education, students had been asked to, “Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president.” Many school districts and Principals have already taken action by announcing a opt-out policy for their students by emailing and writing each parent. It has been confirmed that Douglas County School Distric in Colorado, Corinth, Mississippi, Independent School Districts, ours is named Keller ISD Texas, Mesa Public Schools in Arizona, Scottsdale Unified School District in Arizona. Even Educational professionals such as Tom Horne, the State superintendent of Public Instruction in Arizona, said he's troubled that the accompanying U.S. Department of Education materials "are too worshipful toward Obama" and "educationally unsound." He further stated, "I think that good education practices are that children should be taught to listen skeptically and to analyze and to think critically, and none of that is in the materials." Yet the lesson plans make clear that Obama demands -- for to say that a man in such an office "strongly desires" something carries to the force of a strict command from regular folk. Barack Obama thus demands that the students should agree with what he says, find that it is important and act upon it. After complaints of such obvious politicization of our schools, just yesterday White House Spokesman Tommy Vietor announced, “We changed it to clarify the language so the intent is clear.” Therefore it is reasonable to demand that the prior materials sent to you by the Government be destroyed and at the least teachers be instructed not to use the previously provided “lesson plans.” They have already admitted to one error involving this ill advised scheme among the other blatant errors and admissions in this “lesson plan.” My strong recommendation as a concerned citizen resident in this school district is that this school NOT participate in such an event, because the topic and subjects to be discussed are unknown. If Mr. Obama wishes to address this group of our community let it be NOT as some captive audience. No politician has the right to speak directly to our children while refusing to allow a discussion of opposing viewpoints. That is not how we do things in America. The children in a classroom or auditorium have no choice but to sit through such a speech. Nor is it wise or responsible for an adult in charge of such vulnerable young minds and spirits to allow anyone free access to them in a captive situation such as a classroom or auditorium without first reviewing and approving the lesson plan. A plan that MUST INCLUDE the subject to be discussed and what is to be discussed about it. It would be more appropriate to record such a speech and play it later after the subject matter had been determined. See the Fox News report: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/02/critics-decry-obamas-lesson-plan-students/ I feel it is imperative that the responsible adults in charge of the student body of _________ School do what is right in this case. And that is to not ever allow such a presentation no matter who asks to make it. Let them provide a video that may be reviewed for content first. And then decide if it is a worthwhile or good thing to do. Please do not participate in this dictatorial indoctrination on September 8th. That is what it is at this point. Pure dictatorial political indoctrination. It would be irresponsible to allow it, it would be a dereliction of your duty to the young charges who are your responsibility to protect and to build their intellects, spirits and morals. All the attention that has been directed on this issue has undoubtedly changed what subtle message Obama intended to convey. Without having any information on the exact subject matter of the speech before this issue came to light we will just never know. Without a parent approved opt-out provision you subject you school to adverse budgetary effects if a number of students choose to be absent altogether over this issue. I will follow-up on this letter with a phone call to you and contact with the appropriate authorities including the School Board. Sincerely, [name] [town]

It’s amazing how quickly Americans rose up to this latest ploy by OBOZO - speaks highly that our American spirit is alive and well!!!

I'm encouraged and impressed with the response of the American public. These are parents whose children are in public school and even a great many of them object.

This has to be a wake up call for the liberals to see this kind of response. They can blow off the tea parties and town hall meetings all they want, but this is just further proof that there is a grassroots sentiment that is not organized, against what they are pushing.

What's nice is that it's very consistent with the objections to the healthcare debacle and mucking around with taxes and bailouts.

I disagree. So do others:

“Brainstorm or Concept Web: What other historic moments do you remember when the President spoke to the nation? What was the impact? Students could create a Cause/Effect graphic organizer.”

There is nothing “historic” about his decision to speak on healthcare. It’s the WAY he’s going about it.

“...picking a side while using the children...”

I picked my side a long time ago - right about the time a dear friend of mine, a wise old Navy Chief, sat me down and explained how things REALLY were - who the democrat party really was, that they sold their collective soul and were collaborating with communists, socialists, and every other POS enemy of America to gain power and control over us.

They can call me/us all the names they want. It matters not one bit of difference to me.

Should they choose to act on their hatred/treason, I’ll let Daniel Webster (you know, one of the un-PC Dead White Men they USED to teach about in school) speak for me:

“I was born an American; I live an American; I shall die an American; and I intend to perform the duties incumbent upon me in that character to the end of my career. I mean to do this with absolute disregard of personal consequences.

What are the personal consequences? What is the individual man, with all the good or evil that may betide him, in comparison with the good or evil which may befall a great country, and in the midst of great transactions which concern that country’s fate?

Let the consequences be what they will, I am careless. No man can suffer too much, and no man can fall too soon, if he suffer, or if he fall, in the defense of the liberties and constitution of his country...”

Instead of sending our kids to be indoctrinated into the new Komsomol or Hitlerjugend, keep them home that day and TEACH THEM TO MEMORIZE Daniel Webster’s words about being an AMERICAN.

We ALL need to take this “pledge”. It’s the ONLY pledge they’ll get from me and mine, along with one other:

“to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee.”

Yeah...it’s like that for me now. Wish it wasn’t, but I didn’t make it that way - they did.

Perhaps a talk with the principal and district superintendent about the racism that exists in their school might be an idea.

Unless you think that it would really make things worse for him. I wouldn’t want to see him put in danger of physical retaliation in the manner of ACORN.

My son is a tenth grader attending the IB program at Thornton High School. He called me this morning and told me that he talked to a lady at the school office and at first she acted like she didn’t know anything about the event. However, when my son said that he wanted to opt out, she gave him the impression that she wasn’t an Obama fan and that my son would not have to participate.
