THE BRIEFING ROOM THE BLOG
THE BLOG
TUESDAY, AUGUST 4TH, 2009 AT 6:55 AM Facts Are Stubborn Things Posted by Macon Phillips
Opponents of health insurance reform may find the truth a little inconvenient, but as our second president famously said, "facts are stubborn things."
Scary chain emails and videos are starting to percolate on the internet, breathlessly claiming, for example, to "uncover" the truth about the Presidents health insurance reform positions.
In this video, Linda Douglass, the communications director for the White Houses Health Reform Office, addresses one example that makes it look like the President intends to "eliminate" private coverage, when the reality couldnt be further from the truth.
For the record, the President has consistently said that if you like your insurance plan, your doctor, or both, you will be able to keep them. He has even proposed eight consumer protections relating specifically to the health insurance industry.
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we cant keep track of all of them here at the White House, were asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.
Here are the complete videos that Linda refers to. First from the AARP:
And then from the President's news conference:

YES WE CAN read the bill online.

So why then does the house bill ask for your bank account info? Amd why does a consultation on “end of life” care become mandatoryy every 5 years after the age of 65? Perhaps those on that side of the aisle read the bill and see that it isn’t a lie?

“Details Matter: A Response to Secretary Sebelius”
Posted August 4th, 2009 at 11.59am in Health Care.
SNIPPET: “Health Secretary Kathleen Sebeliuss Washington Post op-ed shows that shes studied the focus groups and tracking polls on health care: Just beat up on health insurance companies enough, and you can get Americans to accept a thousand plus pages of legislation that would do just about anything. And then, make sure to tell Americans not to focus on what the legislation actually says. She flat-out writes: we cant let the details distract us
Just trust us. We are from Washington. We are going to rearrange the entire health system.
If it were a national economy, our health system would be the sixth largest economy in the world larger than Britains entire economy. And remember, the guys who are rewriting our health care are the same people who not only grossly miscalculated the cost of Cash for Clunkers but are now hard-pressed to explain the legislation for that program. And it merely gives away money rather than affecting potentially life-or-death decisions. Ah, but lets not be bothered with such details when we could be bashing health insurers.”
When Cindy starts posting like this, there’s no doubt we’re up to our eyeballs in alligators.

“Dems confess hopes to eliminate private healthcare”
Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 8/4/2009 7:00:00 AM
SNIPPET: “Yet another liberal lawmaker on Capitol Hill has acknowledged that the public option healthcare proposal being promoted by President Obama and Democrats on Capitol Hill is a “Trojan horse” for a single-payer socialized healthcare system.
Earlier this summer, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts) told CNSNews.com that he agrees with President Obama that a single-payer healthcare system has worked well in some countries. Congressman Frank reportedly cited Scandinavia as an example.
Frank was confronted at the National Press Club last week by the group Single Payer Action, which asked him why a single-payer system was off the table.
“Apparently because we don’t have the votes. I wish it weren’t. I’m all for it. I’m a big sponsor,” he admitted.
Frank is referring to his support for H.R. 676, The United States National Health Care Act, which has 85 congressional co-sponsors. He says trying to push a single-payer bill through Congress before getting a public option approved would be “suicidal.””
