UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.
ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.
The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.
Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

That newspaper hates Palin with a passion.
Travel the country helping get conservatives elected.
Maybe do some TV commentary.

The onslaught against her by the Left just backfired on them - big time!
There's 18 months left in her four year term. It was a four year contract, and she's quitting. I expected better from her. If she plans on running for president, she should have announced that she plans on finishing up her term and not running for re-election.
I'm wondering though if she just wants out of elected politics. After the way the left and some of the elite on the "right" treated her, I don't blame her.
The media seems happy but confused. Sorta like the hunter in Jurassic Park going after the raptor.......he thought he had her until she sneaked up on him.....and then it was too late......she killed him.......his last words were "clever girl"........and like the raptor, she will kill the left....and their dying words will be "clever girl,Sarah"
These guys on Fox are annoying. Back to Twilight Zone marathon.
Ooh, the rat on FOX says it doesn’t look good for Palin and it’s wide open field for Republicans in 2012, but it open for Romney. LoL!
Sarah’s young enough to run for president in 2016, or even 2020. Heck, in 2024 she’ll only be sixty. There’s plenty of time...
Give it a rest.
You’re like a dog with a bone.
“If you see any bizarre comments under this screen name, then i was wrong. ;-)”
Been seeing bizarre comments from that screen name and Nita Nuprez for 11 years now =)
I’ll do as I please, and if you don’t like it you can sit down on the floor and cry.

You joined today to post that?
I thought highlighting the cost of the attacks on her was a brilliant move. Sarah is the complete Conservative Candidate and will be the topic of conversation at everyones picnic table this weekend.
Sarah isn’t quitting anything. She’s just prepping for a new battlefield.
Thank you for your words of faith. I was panicked until I read your comments.
Sounds to me as if she is trying to do what is best for her state. If she is constantly having to defend against other things, rather than being the leader of her state, it takes away from that leadership. Looks like she is handing the reins over to someone who does not have to be in defense mode all the time. Good luck, Governor Palin.
You are better than I am.
Hopefully Sarah has more vision than I do, because this just doesn't seem right.
I was just getting my hopes up she was going to take on 0bama every day in a speech or something.
Maybe she will.
I haven't seen the announcement yet but will. Hopefully I will get a better idea of her intentions.
The field is getting pretty thin.
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE TO TAKE ON 0BAMA????????????
please.
The difference is Ronald Reagan actually SERVED AND COMPLETED BOTH OF HIS TERMS
Reagan NEVER QUIT. Ever.
