UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.
ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.
The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.
Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

Bob Dole resigned from the Senate to concentrate on running for President, and he lost big.
Joe Lieberman ran for both the Senate and Vice-President simultaneously.

Don’t tell you are that lecherous and depraved.
Probably some time off to contemplate and ready herself for her next move.
She doesn’t have the money. Lawyers are not free.
..LOL--right on CC
I am not going to pretend to know.
This is NOT good...
Maybe she’ll take the reins of the RNC and make it a Conservative party again — kick out the damn RINOs!
“All in,” as in she’s totally dedicating herself to saving the country from the illegal alien Communist?
Or “all in,” as in exhausted?
This could actually be a brilliant move.
If her plan is to spend 2010 campaigning for die-hard conservatives for the 2010 elections, she could be drawing a line in the sand with the GOP, forcing them back to their roots.
Not only would this rally the conservative base for 2010 and hopefully get enough CONSERVATIVES in the houses to slow down this train wreck we are witnessing, it would give her the networking, the campaigning, and the exposure she needs to run — AND WIN — in 2012.
This could be part of a brilliant strategy. I hope I'm right. Quite frankly there aren't many out there that look good for 2012, except for DeMint and a couple of others.
Greta says she now has a SARAH-PAC formed two weeks ago....Lets fill the coffers folks.
I saw someone that didn’t take too kindly to that remark.
If some comment like that would bother SP (and it wouldn’t) instead of causing a belly laugh,
she doesn’t have a prayer.
American don't like quitters. She's quitting. This bodes very ominously for her future political viability.
No, just a realist.
It’s a very, very savvy move.
Bing! We have a winner!
Some of the other posts/speculation here are utter garbage!
> Maybe Zero has offered her a job in the administration. <
Well, it can’t be ambassador to Malta!
Conservatives seem to be some of the most doom and gloomers anywhere. How bout hearing what she says rather than the pundiots?
Pray for America and Gov Palin
I think you are on target. Politics is a mean business and when you and your loved ones are in the cross hairs meaness becomes visciousness. Chalk up another win for the Dems’ politics of personal destruction.
Maybe she's building a house with a bigger & better kitchen.
