Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 3, 2009

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

B.S.

You didn’t like her. You have been talking to some liberal females and you are “not one of us”. I had you figured out early.

Resignation is a BIG mistake if she actually aspires to higher, national office.

I agree. Why step down now with a year to go. This looks like she can't finish something she has started and is taking the easy way out. Hate to say it but I think her career in politics just went out the window. Hate to see it as I really like her and would work for her election but this is bad.

"More likely it will be 2016."

Unless she moves to the Senate, which is highly unlikely, a run in 2016 wouldn't be any more successful on 2012 with just three years of gubernatorial experience and nothing else.

I don't think that there's any dirty laundry at play here waiting to come out, but I do hope that there's no one's health who's in jeopardy.

She can’t get on a plane without the ahole libs filing ethics charges against her, costing her family, personally, thousands in legal fees.

I'm having mixed opinions on this.

Every time she steps out of the state for a fundraising event, she's accused of ignoring the needs of Alaska.

Every time she attends a local Alaskan event, she's slapped with a frivolous ethics complaint designed to ruin her financially.

She may have seen staying in the governship as a lose-lose position for her. However, nobody likes a quitter and she still has to establish her bona fides. It's harder to maintain credibility without the authority of something like a governship to draw on.

If for family reasons, I hope all works out and God bless er.

If for running for President, a bad move for Palin will be labeled a quitter.

Agree she is too good for Politics as it is practiced in this Country. Most good, truly righteous people are.

Unfortunately, I think this is more of a strategy for obtaining higher office - A political move I personally disagree with and hope is not the reason for her resignation.

In other notices. Wow - This has pushed MJ to the side for just a little while.

That's politics, that's why Harry Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Sarah is getting out of the kitchen.

Great move and she can concentrate on the Presidency.

Probably. Too many other people are assuming the worst and jumping to conclusions.

So Ms. Palin is now out for 2012.

In no way should we support someone who spent 3 years as governor and then left office in the face of slight adversity and rumors in a Vanity Fair article. That is not leadership at all

Sanford out

Palin out

Ensign out

Making the job easier for who to select in 2012.

I think she’s getting out of elective politics. This would leave her never having finished a term in elective office, other than mayor of an itsy bitsy remote town.

My guesses: Either big scandal brewing and/or Todd threatened to divorce her if she didn’t get out, or Republican Party offered her some high-paying, low-workload, low profile job to get her off the table. The latter would be a really good move — notwithstanding the enthusiasm of all her starstruck fans, she’s utterly unelectable on a Presidential ticket and continued babbling by her starstruck fans saying she is, is simply deadly to the Republican chances of getting Obama out of the White House in 2012.

Folks, she is the Governor of Alaska, which is far away from the lower 48, including Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. If she’s going to be our next president, she has to start campaigning NOW!! She isn’t a do-nothing like BHO, who votes “present” and never shows up to work. Plus, being a governor is different from senator. She can’t do both, so she had to make a choice!! I think it’s BRILLIANT!!

Well, I don’t see this as a political move. Resigning will not help her be president. She and her husband have a family fishing business and other interests. She may just have decided that she’s sick of taking on all these corrupt attacks from both parties, constant lawsuits, and constant attacks by the press in Alaska as well as nationally.

She would have been a great president as well as a great governor, but it’s also not clear whether the losers who are still running the party would ever have permitted that to happen. They are jealous of her. They hate her for showing them up for what they are.

So, it looks like we’re back to square one. Even if Obama finally gets as unpopular as he deserves to be, which is not all that certain to happen, the Republicans can be relied on to do even worse, unless some sort of miracle happens. They’ve been practicing that “race to the bottom” for a long time, with occasional interludes of sense that never seem to last very long.
