After a lifetime of public service and a painful illness, Jack Kemp has died.
Our prayers are with his family.
“Fitzwater wrote in his memoirs about a time when Kemp lunged at Secretary of State James Baker III in the Oval Office. The housing secretary was “nagging, nagging, nagging” Bush to recognize the breakaway Soviet satellite of Lithuania and Baker, the color rising in his face, screamed an epithet at Kemp, Fitzwater recalled. Kemp bounded across the furniture and grabbed at Baker’s throat. They were pulled apart to avoid a fistfight.”
Truly a shock. I didn’t even know he was ill. My condolences for his family. Rest In Peace, Jack.
James Baker did some very good service to this country, but for a number of reasons, I wish someone would pistol whip his sorry ass.
RIP Jack Kemp and may your family’s grieving give way to peace soon.
A good man. He was a local hero here in Buffalo years before he entered politics. I think he holds a few AFL records. A case could be made for him for Canton.
Dear Lord Jesus,
We pray that you would comfort Jack’s family and friends. We thank you for this good man’s heart and kindness. We pray you welcome into your arms.
In Your Holy Name,
Amen
I will miss Jack Kemp. I lived in CA in 1988, the first presidential election cycle I was old enough to vote. He was running in the primary that year along with GHW Bush. I wanted him for president, but he dropped out of the race before CA got to vote. I voted for him anyway because there was no way I wanted GHW Bush.
Some times I wonder how different our nation would be if Jack Kemp had won instead. We might have gotten something like the contract with America a lot sooner, and probably wouldn’t have had to live through the Clintons. We certainly wouldn’t have gotten Justice Souter.
It was guys like Kemp that brought me to the Republican Party in the first place. Sadly, today’s GOP is a sad former shell of itself.

He was a rarity even in the days when values reigned supreme.
These days it’s all about power and fame and looking good on TV. *sigh*
Rest in blessed peace, Mr. Kemp. You will be sorely missed.
Thanks, dear friend.
Prayers for a good man and his family.
Sorry to hear of Kemp’s passing. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and political supporters.
I don’t think Reagan had any choice in his vp pick. I believe Reagan said he’d never choose GHWB. Then a group of people had a conversation with him and I felt he wasn’t given a choice.
He was a very decent man, and a good market conservative. RIP Mr. Kemp, and thank you for your service.
RIP, sir.
Thank you for your service for this country, Jack.
May The Good Lord Bless your family in this time of grief.
Thank you for unstinting service to your country, Mr. Kemp. May G-D comfort your family and friends, and may you be in the presence of Jesus forever.
You mean like F*** the Jews and the Iraq War Study Group??
A day late. I just saw this. We lost another good one. Prayers for his family and friends.
