Slapton Sands
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8
On the southern shores of England is Slapton Sands. This beautiful beach area carries a tragic memory from its past.
On April 28, 1944, during World War II, Allied soldiers were engaged in Operation Tiger, a training exercise in amphibious beach landings in preparation for the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Suddenly, enemy gunboats appeared and killed over 700 American servicemen in a surprise attack. Today, a monument stands on Slapton Sands to commemorate the sacrifice of those young men who died while training for battle but were never able to enter the conflict.
This tragedy is a metaphor that warns the believer in Christ. We too are involved in combat with an enemy who is powerful and deceptive. That is why the apostle Peter warned: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).
Like the soldiers on Slapton Sands, we face an enemy who desires our undoing. In the service of our King, we must be on the alert. The call to be effective in battle (2 Tim. 2:3-4) challenges us to be ready for the surprise attacks of our spiritual enemyso that we can endure to serve another day.
The devils tactic is surprise
To stop you in your tracks,
So keep on guard and trust Gods Word;
Resist his strong attacks. Branon

Hey there,
Miramar Marine Corps Air Station is around 10 miles North of me here in San Diego.
Besides the Military activity there,
Miramar is also the nation’s busiest air traffic control facility. It deals with San Diego to LAX

I was on the tarmac at Miramar when the first F-14 landed with the Secretary of the Navy in the RIO seat. Some years later, I moved to Mira Mesa (1983) to enjoy watching the Top Gun folks training. The air shows were always outstanding. When the F-14s left and the Marines arrived, we were "treated" to helicopters and FA-18 aircraft. When I finally sold the house in 2001, my son joined the Marines. His reserve unit operates off the east end of Miramar. He wrapped up his service in 2008. It's a fine base.
