'Obama is overwhelmed.' (Obama ally says he's "too tired")
National Review ^ | Sunday, March 08, 2009 | Jim Geraghty

Perhaps it's just some Obama ally speaking out of school. But these are probably some of the most terrifying words to come from an unidentified source in some time:

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

The American source said: "Obama is overwhelmed. There is a zero sum tension between his ability to attend to the economic issues and his ability to be a proactive sculptor of the national security agenda.

"That was the gamble these guys made at the front end of this presidency and I think they're finding it a hard thing to do everything."

It's at moments like this I'm reminded of this assessment of Obama, back in 2007: "I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."

That assessment came from . . . Vice President Joe Biden.

I don't think anyone has asked this yet:

Has Obama already qualified for the title of “Worst President in US History”?

Yes - 1
No - 0

Note: This is a scientific poll. There is a margin of error of 0%. Everyone polled was qualified to respond.

Failed so far to even fake in interest in the citizens he's supposed to serve. All jokes aside, we are indeed doomed.

I bet he has plenty of time to work out every day in the White House gym.

Or party at night with Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire.

If he’s this worn out by the Presidency, then he should resign for the good of the nation.

Well, that or Section 3 of the 25th Amendment. Whose up for Acting President Biden? :-O

Is it just me, or did George W. Bush find time to actually do the job of Being President, in addition to the job of Running for President?

Sarah Palin would do her job and she wouldn’t be complaining about it, you betcha. Heck, she’d even have time for a little target practice after dinner.

Good point. GWB surrounded himself with competent administrators. He learned the hard way from his father and as CEO of an oil company, baseball team, and ultimately, as governor.

Hussein, like the clintons, tends to surround himself with true believers, the psychophants. Most, like he, have no executive experience in the real world.

That would be, “after she whupped up dinner”, and the result of the target practice would probably be on the grill tomorrow night ;-)

(I just loved the Greta interview with her in the kitchen)

Actually, he managed a big grant-funded project for Bill Ayers. Not exactly the kind of job experience that prepares one for the Presidency, but it was actually a job—my wife had a one-year post-doc in which her job was largely to get grants, while another long-term post-doc had managing grant-funded projects as a full-time job.

The problem (beyond his wanting to head the country in the wrong direction) is that other than Gates and Clinton he doesn’t have anyone competent to delegate anything to.

Geithner, besides being a tax-cheat, is also a moron when it comes to dealing with economic crises: he had the Indonesia portfolio at the IMF when he was there, and managed to run the Indonesian economy into the ground. Obama couldn’t fill the Commerce portfolio in a timely manner, and his chief-of-staff is only useful as a political hatchetman.

Without a good cabinet to delegate things to, and the ability and willingness to do it, no President can do the job. Of course, if you’ve got a really good cabinet and good skills at delegation, you can do a splendid job as POTUS and still take afternoon naps, witness Ronaldus Magnus.

Well if he had been say an organizer for several square blocks rather than just a neighborhood organizer he may have had better experience for being POTUS ...

The basketball, workouts, Chicago trips, and disco boogiedowns to Earth, Wind, and Fire are necessary state functions. Chats with the PM of Britain are optional now.

to work. Come on, girl!"
