WH lashes out at CNBC's Santelli

The White House is lashing out publicly and personally at a CNBC reporter whose attack on President Barack Obama’s anti-foreclosure plan caught fire on the Internet on Thursday.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs jumped at the chance to go after the CNBC journalist, Rick Santelli, when a question about his bracing critique was asked at Friday’s news briefing.

“I’ve watched Mr. Santelli on cable the past 24 hours or so. I’m not entirely sure where Mr. Santelli lives or in what house he lives but the American people are struggling every day to meet their mortgages, stay in their jobs, pay their bills, send their kids to school,” Gibbs said. “I think we left a few months ago the adage that if it was good for a derivatives trader that it was good for Main Street. I think the verdict is in on that,” the press secretary said, poking directly at the cable journalist, who reports from the trading floor at the Chicago Board of Trade.

Gibbs insisted Santelli was misinformed when he said Obama’s program would amount to a transfer of money from prudent taxpayers to those who had taken reckless risks.

Mortgage debt is the US is substantially higher than $1.2 trillion. I think the total mortgages guaranteed by FNMA and FHLMC exceed $4 trillion, not to mention the unguaranteed loans plus the jumbo loans (non-conforming).

They have to be Fan/Fred customers and have to be having trouble paying...

You know, they’re pretty much of the notion that you can’t buy your way into prosperity, and if the multiplier that all of these Washington economists are selling us is over… that we never have to worry about the economy again. The government should spend a trillion dollars an hour because we’ll get 1.5 trillion back.

Put the CEOs not in front of some Congressional committee but behind bars in jail, cut spending and raise some taxes and cut others like the capital gains taxes. Some folks say that cutting taxes drives revenues up but I think what drives those revenues is the budget deficit spending getting pumped into the economy.

And fight this war like we did WW2. Wasting time gives the enemy time to attain nukes.....and they WILL use them. Of course with our first gay cocaine freak president in the White House - we can expect few good days ahead.

White House press briefing had urged Santelli to become familiar with the plan before he started criticizing it.

Santelli said he would be happy to, but he hinted the last major piece of legislation that involved the public’s tax money - the $787 billion stimulus plan - was forced through Congress without anyone reading it.

We are going to NOT ONLY give money to the deadbeats but far more to the companies (Tarp 1 and 2) that screwed us to begin with.

That One does not hesitate to bring out any kind of dirt he can find on anyone who disagrees with him. There has to be a mountain of blackmailable dirt on just about any reporter who has advanced high enough to be in a position to control the flow of news. It’s probably pretty easy for him to work the media to his advantage.

Reading some of the comments here and knowing what the Rat mafia is capable of — I for one think this is already not even funny. Good grief when someone hits a nerve in the Administration, NObama goes ballistic!

That said, I think Santelli is a hero to America - for saying what we’re thinking! Everyone sits around blogging, but this guy took the opportunity to shout about this cr@p, and we can finally say that there’s traction for once on the side of the hard-working, tax-paying citizen.

Santelli certainly gave me hope yesterday as the foxes are running the hen house.
