WH lashes out at CNBC's Santelli

The White House is lashing out publicly and personally at a CNBC reporter whose attack on President Barack Obama’s anti-foreclosure plan caught fire on the Internet on Thursday.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs jumped at the chance to go after the CNBC journalist, Rick Santelli, when a question about his bracing critique was asked at Friday’s news briefing.

“I’ve watched Mr. Santelli on cable the past 24 hours or so. I’m not entirely sure where Mr. Santelli lives or in what house he lives but the American people are struggling every day to meet their mortgages, stay in their jobs, pay their bills, send their kids to school,” Gibbs said. “I think we left a few months ago the adage that if it was good for a derivatives trader that it was good for Main Street. I think the verdict is in on that,” the press secretary said, poking directly at the cable journalist, who reports from the trading floor at the Chicago Board of Trade.

Gibbs insisted Santelli was misinformed when he said Obama’s program would amount to a transfer of money from prudent taxpayers to those who had taken reckless risks.

NBC had to get wrangled in for letting one of the minions speak freely.

We’ll see Santilli’s personal life ripped apart in 5, 4, 3....

At first I didn't understand the $75B bailout for homeowners in danger of losing their homes, but after a brief period of thought, it all became crystal clear. You see, typically when democrats buy votes, they try to get more bang for their buck with our tax dollars. On the surface this proposal would appear to only net 9 million voters plus possibly the immediate families of the homeowners at a cost of over $8,000 per home. I was thinking to myself why wouldn't democrats do nothing and endear themselves to the tens of millions of poor renters out there who have been scraping and saving and waiting for lower home prices, since without this government assistance, home prices would undoubtedly go lower and make homes even more affordable to these “poor renters.” That would be the fair thing to do, but this isn't about fairness. What I came to realize was that these “poor renters” are responsible individuals and are in all likelihood not democrats, while the irresponsible homeowners who lied about their incomes to get a mortgage and purchased their homes at the top of the market are most probably democrats. So rather than a vote buying operation by the administration, this turns out to be pure and simple pay back for their loyal irresponsible followers who view themselves as entitled to this taxpayer-funded subsidy.

Hey, really.
If they’re gonna bailout banks and the UAW - why not pay-off everyone’s mortgages while they’re at it?
What’s the problem?
It would only take about $1.2 trillion to pay-off every single-family occupied home mortgage in the US.

And, not just some program to REFINANCE, but to PAY IT OFF!
Instead of giving it to banks and automakers, why not just give it to the homeowners so every home in America will be free and clear?
Then if a depression/recession hits, at least everybody’s home is paid for.
Why not?

I agree that Bush didn’t defend himself. He should have. I believe that Obama has a personality disorder. And very thin skin.

It also encourages more irresponsible behavior (the moral hazard the guy was ranting about),

and with more irresponsible behavior comes more democRat votes.

This is a good thing. I mean either the administration is VERY thin skinned and/or the are really and truly feeling the heat of this bailout. Both I think!

“Heard it WLS this morning, with discussion following. It was great. A Chicago Tea Party? I’m in!”

I believe the July 4th date has been mentioned. The city usually puts on the fireworks display on the 3rd. But I believe Taste of Chicago is still going on the 4th? A tea party crowd showing up on the 4th could shut down “Taste”, much to the chagrin of our (give them bread and circuses) “City Fathers.”

I think Obama has narcissistic personality disorder. He cannot take any kind of criticism. There was an article posted today about it and I know one was posted during the election. That man has issues. Maybe mental health issues. Scary.

Hillary Clinton said: I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration, somehow you're not patriotic, and we should stand up and say, WE ARE AMERICANS AND WE HAVE A RIGHT TO DEBATE AND DISAGREE WITH ANY ADMINISTRATION!

I’m not entirely sure where Mr. Santelli lives ...!!

These people are plain scary. This is exactly what they did to 'Joe the Plumber'. Nothing but thugs who can't stand or 'tolerate' other opinions.
