SURPRISE! Dems Break Promise: Stimulus Bill to Floor Friday

In a press conference Thursday, the House Republican leadership spoke candidly about being kept out of the House-Senate conference on the Obama-Pelosi-Reid so-called “economic stimulus” bill. They confirmed they had not yet seen the text of the bill as of 4 p.m.

<SNIP> The fact that the Demos have now broken their promise to have the public able to see the bill for 48 hours may drive more Dems into the Republican camp.

“[I] don’t know, ‘cause they haven’t seen the bill either,” Boehner said.

“The American people have a right to know what’s in this bill,” Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind) told HUMAN EVENTS after the press conference. “Every member of Congress -- Republicans and Democrats -- voted to post this bill on the internet for 48 hours, 48 hours ago. We’ll see if the Democrats keep their word.”

Oh, and the Conference Report was finally posted where the public can see it at about 7:30 this morning.

I agree with you. For the first time in my 55 years I have written to one of my elected officials and that probably is something that is happening a lot in the country.

Among other things I told my senators about was the selfish fact that to pass this bill without dissuasion and debate to make sure it is needed and not just spending would consign “my bonus baby” (currently four) to a life of higher taxes or lost opportunities.

I urge everyone to contact your representatives. For once in my life I see a political battle that I cannot ignore.

I have been advocating taking a page out of the liberals' playbook, suggesting that we go after the "willing accomplices" -- namely, Hollywood and the MSM. Stop buying the newspapers. Don't go to the movies. Don't watch the major networks, CNN, MSNBC, etc. (If you have cable or satellite, you are part of the ratings.)

These businesses are already teetering, and if it were made known that their continued financial survival depends on a "change of attitude".... could be an interesting thing to watch unfold.

Of course, this wouldn't work unless a huge number of conservatives committed to doing it.

Some are giving up hope in their faux messiah, some watched their savings evaporate on Wall Street, some are old and sick with an administration that no longer wishes to waste resources on them — whatever their individual situation, these new “Children of the Mist” may wreak havoc before long. I've been thinking that perhaps general strikes are a better way. Call it "Tax Free Friday." Workers take a day of unpaid ...

I see problems with this. First, individuals are inherently greedy and want to preserve their income (me included). Second, a worker at a big corporation will have a hard time asking for "unpaid" days. It's either a vacation day or it is not. Not to mention it's a bad idea to let your politics become an issue at work. Last, it feels too much like the European train strikes that get scheduled for a couple of hours per week.

As for the quarterly idea, right now the penalties are not so bad. I had one year that was just out of wack with any other year. I never adjusted my quarterlies. I just kept hoarding savings knowing that I would have a big tax bill. I ended up paying over $25k in taxes and the penalty was on the order of a couple of hundred.

Luckily, the Libs made this really easy. It's called the Family Medical Leave Act. It's the law. Companies have to allow up to 12 weeks per year of unpaid leave for family medical leave. Very little (more like none) documentation or proof is needed.

The company can charge off vacation days until you exhaust those. After that, they still have to allow the full 12 weeks (60 days) of leave. It can be taken one day a week.
