Nancy Pelosi had heard enough, thank you very much, after two enraged House Democrats rose at Tuesday’s caucus meeting to bitterly denounce the Senate’s take-it-or-leave-it offer on the stimulus.
It wasn’t because Pelosi wasn’t ticked off herself — quite the opposite.
“At a certain point, after a couple of members had expressed themselves, she asked that future speakers not address that issue because it was reminding her how angry she was,” said Rep. Anthony D. Weiner (D-N.Y.), who was in the room.
When Pelosi emerged from behind closed doors a few minutes later to address the press, she wore the broadest possible smile on her face. But her words expressed the grimmest possible resolve, as she girded for a conference committee battle on the stimulus destined to yield, at best, partial victory.
“Usually you go to conference and split the difference between the two houses — that may not be the case here,” Pelosi said. “At these conferences, my experience has been that the White House has a seat at the table — that they weigh in.”
Both Obama and Pelosi are hoping to restore significant stimulus spending eliminated by the Senate, especially $21 billion in school construction and technology grants, $10.3 billion in COBRA insurance and $8.6 billion in new Medicaid coverage for the unemployed.
The Senate passed its $830 billion stimulus bill Tuesday — but it wouldn’t have passed at all without the support of three moderate Republicans and a conservative Democrat who helped the Democratic majority obtain the 60 votes necessary to stop a filibuster.
Majority Leader Harry Reid’s solution has created its own set of problems for the speaker. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) all have publicly insisted that the measure emerge more or less unchanged...

Yep! And what is bad is the Republican Party gave her a lot of money so they could win that seat. It didn't take her long to flip the bird to the GOP.

I hope so, but they really only look out for themselves and in this case, they have and will have their privileged health care coverage.
What we need to do is pick off one of the Democrats who is up for re-election in a conservative leaning state. Why can’t we go on more of the offensive. They got those three nitwits to cross party lines, we should be working on someone other than Ben Nelson.
Well, that's kind of my point. Regardless of what numbers the media is citing to continue to prop him up, Obama is fully aware of what the real numbers are.
He is still in campaign mode and I am confident he will remain that way throughout his presidency, however long that may be. He is no leader, he is an actor.

I have sent the link to Betsy McCaughey's piece in Bloomberg (which someone also linked above) Ruin Your Health With the Obama Stimulus Plan and links to contact pages for their representatives & Senators as well as the AARP to demand some answers for their lack of concern about this to every senior I know with an email address & suggested they pass this on to their contacts.
But the AARP is not the only bogus organization showing its true colors by letting these secret provisions pass under the radar. These dishonest changes are being passed without the knowledge or input of the medical community as well, evidently with the AMA's blessing. The way docs practice will be adversely impacted in a profoundly dramatic way, so I have sent links to all the MDs in my family hoping they will spread the word to their colleagues. As per their usual, the AMA doesn't seem to be interested in protecting the professional interests of its members, so docs in this country will once again have to fend for themselves.
Before his election, Obama repeatedly promised voters he would institute a "Sunshine Before Signing" policy giving the public ample time to review & comment upon legislation. As we've seen with the Lily Ledbetter law and SCHIPS & others, that promise turned out to be a big fat lie along with all the other broken promises such as his "No lobbyists will work in my White House" whopper. His attempt to sneak socialized medicine into the "Stimulus" bill hidden underneath all the (deliberately?) attention-hogging pork is about as arrogantly deceitful a slap in the face to the American people as it gets, but it's a particularly egregious assault against Seniors & their physicians.
Both these groups need to know that this administration & the organizations which purport to promote their interests intend to royally screw them with this trojan horse bill under the false pretext of 'stimulating' the economy. What's become increasingly impossible to deny is that the only thing this bill will 'stimulate' is the massive life & death power that entrenched government bureaucrats will wield over the the citizenry of this nation.
The economy would recover w/o this monstrosity and is showing signs of doing just that. If this passes that recovery is more doubtful.

The porkulus needs to be stopped. Too bad it won’t happen. The 3 R Senators should pull their support so that this whole spending exercise (socialism masked as a stimulus bill) will be wholly owned by the Dems. No R votes in the House. There should be no R votes in the Senate.

Of course his re-election depends on it-—the money dedicated to Acorn is to faciliate stealing the election. Alot of the money in the stimulus bill will not kick in until 2010/2011. Gee, I wonder why? Could it be for the re election season..JMHO
IMO, these two are related to a stimulus idea. Yet, these are the ones that they want to fight over.
This proves to me that it is really just a welfare package disguised as stimulus.
