I have no clue why he was picked, but you are correct on Martinez. Corker needs to get out it was procedural. If I was him, I would make a major announcement tomorrow when I voted against the bill and make sure it made every newspaper and news program in TN.

“Perhaps you should ask the mods to change the title of your thread to match the actual story: “Key Senate vote advances $827 billion stimulus bill”. This would also be more accurate since they haven’t voted on the bill but only to end debate on the bill.”

Done. Thank you.

“wont there be a greater chance of their seats being filled with democrats?”

Democrats would be favorable to flat out traitors.

The 3 should be striped of all committee assignments and given 80 sq. ft. offices in the basement.

Thanks for the heads up KansasGirl.

You could have knocked me over with a feather when I
heard that old Bob had voted affirmative.

All my previous indications were that he was agin’ it.

Alexander could be a problem.

-- It's [Corker's reason for voting to limit debate] a quaint thing in the Senate rules that you essentially have one person vote against the fillibuster to retain tehir right to fillibuster. --

No. You are mixing up the right to reconsider the vote with the right to "unlimited debate." Scare quotes, because Senate rules don't require holding the floor in order to object to setting a time to take the vote. A senator can object to voting, without taking a vote stand one way or the other. But, in order to move to reconsider a vote, one has to be on the winning side. There is no point to a motion to reconsider a cloture vote, once cloture (a 30 hour time limit on debate) has been agreed to.

How long will the Dems be able to prop up Ted for the vote? Guarantee that not a single Dem will jump ship?

Keep those cards and letters coming.

Collins and Snowe live in Maine, not Vermont/Rhode Island.

Collins and Snowe are safe from a primary challenge. Republicans are practically an unknown commodity in New England.

In fact, only seven people have been elected at either the congressional district or statewide level and currently serve in that role in all of New England:

Jodi Rell (R-CT)
Michael Fedele (R-CT)
Don Carcieri (R-RI)
Jim Douglas (R-VT)
Brian Dubie (R-VT)
Olympia Snowe (R-ME)
Susan Collins (R-ME)

Why should that matter? He (allegedly)drowned a woman and left her for dead, and that hasn’t affected his ability to make important legislative decisions so far....

Thanks for posting that. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the thread title and then the comments. It was like pulling teeth as people were jumping the gun and not paying attention to what the vote was about.

Can I just write a check for $37,000 to buy myself out of any government spending/regulations? Just curious.

I mean if they gonna hook me for this crap I’d rather be out now then next month when they decided they need to simulate me more.
