President Obama on Saturday morning warned of a "national catastrophe" if Congress does not move quickly to pass and implement his economic-stimulus plan, praising the Senate's tentative deal on an $827 billion version of the bill.
"If we don't move swiftly to put this plan in motion, our economic crisis could become a national catastrophe. Millions of Americans will lose their jobs, their homes and their health care. Millions more will have to put their dreams on hold," Mr. Obama said in his weekly radio address.
The president, joined elsewhere Saturday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, continued to wage a rhetorical battle against Republicans -- only three of whom support the bill in the Senate, and none of whom voted for it in the House -- ridiculing GOP calls for more tax relief and less spending in the stimulus bill.
"Let's be clear: We can't expect relief from the tired, old theories that, in eight short years, doubled the national debt, threw our economy into a tailspin and led us into this mess in the first place," Mr. Obama said. "We can't rely on a losing formula that offers only tax cuts as the answer to all our problems."
He defended congressional Democrats' efforts to push the enormous-stimulus package through quickly, saying the bill "deserves the scrutiny that it's received over the last month," but adding that the nation "can't afford to make 'perfect' the enemy of 'the absolutely necessary.' "
A Senate vote on the stimulus proposal is expected as early as Monday after a group of moderate Democrats and Republicans, led by Sens. Ben Nelson, Nebraska Democrat, and Susan Collins, Maine Republican, agreed on trimming about $85 billion in spending and $25 billion in tax cuts from a version of the bill that had topped $930 billion.

This bill if it were to pass could still be stopped by states claiming sovereignty thus refusing to be bought by the federal government.
I am hoping Sarah Palin has considered dropping the other boot and telling Obama what to do with his “stimulanter”.

Now is the appropriate time to spool-up Al Gore’s famous tirade about how Bush - “deceived YOU!...He played on your FEARS!!!”
Then ask why isn’t 0bama also doing the exact same thing now with his proclamation “its certain death if you DON’T give me what I want Porkulus”?
Hey for once, I might find myself agreeing with Gore’s comments about the CURRENT US President doing just that.
Let me be clear. Obama is a fraud and a liar. Old theories (conservatism) did not bring about the current crisis. Massive spending and government expansion did.
True change would be to embrace conservative principles. Cut taxes, stop wasteful spending, and get rid of Congressional programs and projects which are not Constitutionally prescribed in Article I, Section 8. Leave them to the states.
If Congress would do their job, stop meddling in everything, and get out of our wallets, we would see a tremendous stimulus.

It was a gentle reminder to those who can afford to, and who have not yet....donate to Free Republic.
It is questionable that Keynesian economics even helped during the depression. But it seems that a country that is off the gold standard and highly globalized would feel no positive effect from a stimulus and would have a deleterious effect on the dollar resulting in runaway inflation.
The dems are trying to cause a depression. Some would like to see the whiners suffer for supporting socialism and Obama as this would also prove conservative principles.
A depression would ensure a Marxist victory as many people would clamor for government jobs in the panic, further reducing the private sector. Never allow a good crisis to go to waste, as Romm would say.
Yet if conservatives can somehow stave off a depression to the point where the economy is worse than most people remember but still have faith to implement free market principles and use that to elect more conservatives to oppose Obama's Marxist policies, then it would be a major victory for economic freedom.
That's why Obama's moving so fast, because he has very little time to ensure his reelection with ACORN, unions and big money donors. Of course, that this bill is an insurance policy for Obama's reelection is pretty obvious. But I don't think that Obama has much time as we have already fallen too far into socialism and stopped producing tangible goods to prevent a massive economic downturn with wide-ranging political ramifications.
We may have Bush to thank for this, even if complicity with the Rats wasn't about providing a tool to oppose Obama.

Rahm Emanuel apparently lives tax free in a magnificent Chicago mansion owned by "The Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Foundation." According to the Cook County Assessor’s website, the Chicago home of four-term Democrat Congressman, White House Chief of Staff, and Wall Street multi-millionaire, Rahm Emanuel, doesn’t exist........there seems to be no public record of Emanuel ever paying property taxes on this home.
TAX CHEATS are driving Rahm Emanuel's hidden agenda. Obama and his butt kicking COS, Rahm Emanuel, figure "we won" means they can get away with murder, and appoint tax cheats and lobbyists---that America would kneel in obeisance.
That ain't happening. by a longshot.
God-fearing Black church-goers who voted for Obama are teed-off----one of the reasons Daschle is out.
TIPOFF was when Obama went public to explain the screw-up---nominating tax-cheat Daschle. Obama was talking to his adoring supporters----they were expecting MUCH MUCH more from him than tarnished appointees---and 17 lobbyists who got jobs in his admin.
It was also surprising that Obama foolishly took on Rush Limbaugh----which highlighted "porkulus" and gave the Repubs a leg up---and the ability to define the boondoggle. That led to Obama's current problems getting porkulus passed---AMONG DEMOCRATS. Again, Obama's adoring supporters turned the tables on him. We need to start blast-mailing Black churchgoer groups to get the word out.
God-Fearing Black church-goers who voted for Obama will be even more teed-off that this twerp Rahm Emanuel---a multi-millionaire----is not paying property (and other?) taxes---while Black families are struggling to survive.
