Books claiming that science disproves young-earth creationism are very common, and books that claim the Bible itself does not mandate a literal interpretation of the first few chapters of Genesis are not in short supply either. David Snokes book A Biblical Case for an Old Earth ostensibly falls in the latter group, though his main reason for rejecting biblical creation is really uniformitarian science. Books like these generally dont pose a threat to informed creationists, and this one is no exception. In fact, Snoke could have saved himself a lot of trouble if he had actually taken the time to read more creationist literature; most of the things he cites as problems for creationists have been answered years ago.
First, some clear flaws in the book must be pointed out. It takes an amazing amount of arrogance to think that someone can refute young-earth creationism in any kind of detail in a book less than 200 pages long, and with just over 4 pages of endnotes which cite only half a dozen actual creationist works. The only creationist book he cites is The Genesis Flood, which is over 45 years old. No mention of Refuting Compromise for example that refutes almost all his arguments.1 And the most up-to-date creationist article cited is from 1993. Clearly this is a man at the cutting edge!
Incompetent arrogance...

Good for you in exposing these frauds and deceivers! If they are right and are so interested in God's truth, then why do they have to lie?
I've been to Glen Rose many, many times. One of the great wonders of the world is less than 2 hours away from home.
It's funny how instead of reasoning with you, the YECs ignore you. If I didn't know better, I would suspect that you've stumped them.
~~~~~~~~~
You know you've got their range and bearing
when they hunker down and go into
mode...
<LOL!!!>
Being of a totally unscientific mind at aged 80yrs old I have had time to occasionally think about life death and creation. I would be very interested if I could explain my thoughts... first on life and death which has been going on for a long time with nobody or no thing to come back here and tell us what happened to them. Possibly some kind soul could explain to me why this old fool is quite comfortable with the idea of death...which in my case could happen at any moment I guess.
I feel comfortable with the idea that nobody ever dies! To my simple train of thought we are all run by electricity which passes from our brain to our body and instructs it what to do...nothing happens in the sack of mostly water and salts that make up our bodies...(the beautiful people might not agree with this but it is true nevertheless.)
At the moment of death the electrical spark that has governed our life for years leaves us and probably moves to the nearest negative/positive charge...ready to move on to the next mission it is needed for. I would guess that the ancients thought along these lines also...but having no word for electricity they called it the “spirit” which was leaving the body.
I know I am going to be shot down in flames for even thinking this...but I don’t really care...it gives me peace of mind to think that possibly a part of me will still be here to help this old earth live out its life.
As for creation......well somebody or something had to construct the electricity that runs every darned thing you can think of...!!!!!!
By the way just in passing...is it possible to destroy electricity?
Dude, stop pinging me. You are ignorant, a slanderer, and a liar. Get lost.
For all those interested in the kind of “Christian” and “Scientist” DallasMike is, please read the following.
DallasMike the slanderer:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2175104/posts?q=1&;page=51#85
Here is where I correct DallasMikes slander:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2175104/posts?q=1&;page=51#97
Here is where DallasMike confuses inflation with expansion, and then uses a link that actually states just the opposite to call the creationist author of the original article a liar.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2175104/posts?q=1&;page=201#229
Here is where I point out that his own link says just the opposite, namely that inflation is not observed, and was postulated to fix problems with the Big Bang:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2175104/posts?q=1&;page=201#237
But DallasMike keeps posting the same balderdash confusing inflation with expansion. I finally ask Mr. Scientist if he knows the difference between inflation and expansion here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2175104/posts?page=245#245
...and here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2175104/posts?page=245#246
And then DallasMike, the great Christian and scientist has the audacity to pretend he knew the difference all along:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2175104/posts?q=1&;page=251#257
And then after fraudulantly trying to claim that he knew the difference all along, he repeats the same claim (which he now knows is a lie) all over again further down the thread:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2175104/posts?page=290#290
This isnt about whether DallasMike is an OEC or a YEC. If DallasMike were on my side of the debate and I caught him slandering and lying, I would call him on it in a second. As you can see, I called him on his slander and dishonesty and it didn’t make the slightest bit of difference. Therefore, I want nothing to do with DallasMike.
speaking of unwanted pinging...
I’m grateful that you include me on the creation threads,
but I really don’t want to be in on the urinating contests... so to speak...
That’s probably true. For the most part I’m stumped in figuring out how we can answer every skeptic and it never sinks in. Good logic that makes perfect sense to me but you come back with another red herring. Then in another thread it starts all over again.
Then I remember what God says about the profitability of arguing with you. So I stop. But here I am again; casting my pearls before swine and being rent. I just want you to know this so you wont be wise in your own conceit. The reason Bible believers don’t try to answer all of your arguments is because we also believe other parts of the Bible.
Pro 29:9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
Pro 17:16 Wherefore [is there] a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing [he hath] no heart [to it]?
Pro 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
Fair enough.
Thank you. Just thought you should know who you’re dealing with.
All the best—GGG
[[Good logic that makes perfect sense to me but you come back with another red herring. Then in another thread it starts all over again.]]
Yup- typical MO- it is the MO to hammer hammer hammer- in the hopes that people will cave due to unrelenting pressure to do so- Truth means nothing- repitition is hte way to convert apparenelty- Jim Jones knew htis principle well.
[[Then I remember what God says about the profitability of arguing with you. So I stop. But here I am again; casting my pearls before swine and being rent.]]
Don’t worry- I find myself in the same unwanted position constantly
[[Pro 29:9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
Bingo- Wish I could just learn cosntraint- not one of my strong points unfortunately
The Inflation Theory proposes a period of extremely rapid (exponential) expansion of the universe during its first few moments. It was developed around 1980 to explain several puzzles with the standard Big Bang theory, in which the universe expands relatively gradually throughout its history. ... Inflation is now considered an extension of the Big Bang theory....Get it? Inflation was a very early and special moment in the ongoing expansion of the universe, but it is nothing more than an extension of the Big Bang theory. The inflation theory was proposed to explain observational problems with the initial Big Bang theory: the Horizon Problem, the Flatness Problem, and the Monopole Problem).
The site I linked to talked about both inflation and expansion. Could I have worded myself a bit more technically? Certainly, but I try to keep things simple for non-scientists. In case you haven't noticed, I usually link to simplified explanations rather than highly technical explanations out of courtesy for those who do not have scientific backgrounds. This is just a modestly complex technical paper on the monopole problem. While appropriate on a technical forum, I don't think that it would be helpful to post on your threads because the audience is different.
Well he didn’t respond so I must have stumped them;)
Just ignore him for now. (My source tells me they hate being ignored)
I'll let you know if I find anything pertinent.
LOL! Are you with the CIA? You forgot to mention the Secret Decoder Ring. Maybe you need to consult with your sources further.
Roger that. Over and out.
So why do YECs ignore the truth of God's creation and the entire body of different sciences that indicate both an old earth and an old universe?
Maybe you should check over those verses again and re-decide who is playing which role.
Oh man...we have some KJV only guys on this thread. This is going to be good.
As the moderators told you the other night, I have a perfect right to respond to things that you post. In fact, if I mention you in a post, it is standard FR etiquette to include you in the ping. I'm just being a good Freeper. If you don't want me to respond to your posts, then don't post. [excerpt, bold emphasis mine]Exercising your rights takes precedent over being courteous?
LOL! Are you with the CIA? You forgot to mention the Secret Decoder Ring. Maybe you need to consult with your sources further. [excerpt]Why are you so nervous?
"It is a nice day for a picnic." Repeat: "It is a nice day for a picnic."
See post 129. It is absolutely hilarious. Straight out of Spy versus Spy.
I will continue to apprise you of the situation as my NSA sources Joe's Pizzas feed me new information. As if 19:33 GMT, I still see typical MO of the DC operation.
Over and out, Blue Cat.
You should ask me why I'm still laughing after reading your post.
