The Four Republican Senators Open to Working With Obama
Talking Points Memo ^ | 2009-02-05

Posted on 02/05/2009 11:46:54 AM PST by rabscuttle385

President Obama talks about seeking bipartisan accord ... and he reaches out to GOP senators ... but how many Republicans are even open to the need for fixing the economy through government spending?

As The Washington Independent's Dave Weigel points out, that question seems to have been answered in a Senate vote last night. When Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) offered an alternative stimulus plan that would replace all government spending in the stimulus with a series of tax cuts, 36 Republican senators voted for it.

To emphasize the point, that means all but four GOPers were perfectly happy with scrapping the core assumption of the president's plan. Here, then, are the four Republican senators whom Obama has the best shot at working with: Susan Collins (ME), George Voinovich (OH), Arlen Specter (PA), and Olympia Snowe (ME).

"those 4 need new jobs"

At least crybaby Voinovich isn't running in 2010, so theres at least a chance of getting someone other than weasel, pansy-@$$ RINO in that seat.

I sent him a letter asking why he cried "for his children and grandchildren" over the John Bolton nomination, but he's not shedding any tears about this.

He won't answer me. He never does. I'm a Conservative, which means Voinovich and I are polar opposites politically.

steele would be hailing these four as examples of his new direction with the party... tune into Bennett's show tomorrow morning and hear steele host a liberal three hours while Bennett is away.

"The Really Sad Part of this is that Our Republican Senator of Ohio is More Liberal than our Democrat Governor."

I wouldn't go nearly that far. Sherrod Brown is as liberal as the day is long.

But I will say that when Brown votes for every liberal, douche bag idea that comes down the pike you at least know where he's coming from.

Voinovich is not running for reelection and Collins is not up until 2014 and Snowe will be virtually unopposed in Maine.

Good luck with your phone calls. I’m sure a bunch of rabid conservatives will carry the day with these three.

Are you kidding? The two women represent Maine which is not even close to being a conservative state. They are representing a liberal state and are still Republican.

Some of your are either naive or went to drive a wedge in the Republican Party. Those women have voted consistently for our members of the military and if they don’t vote for this bill then they represent their State which is what they are supposed to do.

I want Inhofe and Coburn representing the conservative State of Oklahoma but neither could get elected in Maine no more then those two women could get elected here.

Why aren’t you going after the more conservative Dems like Ben Nelson of NE? He represents Middle America. Why concentrate on the more liberal Republicans. Flip a Dem where we could have a chance to pick up a seat.

Susan Collins (ME), George Voinovich (OH), Arlen Specter (PA), and Olympia Snowe (ME).

These reprobates don't even qualify as RINO's anymore. There needs to be a harsher term.

One that's printable.

That's the corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" at its finest. Nothing short of an all out revolution will fix it.

Agreed, however Sherrod Brown isn't the Governor of Ohio.
