President Obama talks about seeking bipartisan accord ... and he reaches out to GOP senators ... but how many Republicans are even open to the need for fixing the economy through government spending?
As The Washington Independent's Dave Weigel points out, that question seems to have been answered in a Senate vote last night. When Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) offered an alternative stimulus plan that would replace all government spending in the stimulus with a series of tax cuts, 36 Republican senators voted for it.
To emphasize the point, that means all but four GOPers were perfectly happy with scrapping the core assumption of the president's plan. Here, then, are the four Republican senators whom Obama has the best shot at working with: Susan Collins (ME), George Voinovich (OH), Arlen Specter (PA), and Olympia Snowe (ME).
The Really Sad Part of this is that Our Republican Senator of Ohio is More Liberal than our Democrat Governor.
Hear hear. It's a shame we couldn't have Sen. Toomey in there voting against this thing. I mean, it wouldn't make much difference in the long run, but it *would* make us feel better, at least.
Shame to see such a pretty state - filled with people who will never elect a conservative.
Or is Steele too moderate to propose this?
Call the RNC!
No Donations. No MONEY if these RINOs persist in operating off the reservation! Enough already!
>Can we give Maine to Canada or Denmark?
How about Cuba?
>>George Voinovich (OH)

Then give him a call and tell him “thank you” for the conservative positions he (the Democrat) holds.
The article fails to state exactly how much each of these traitors were paid to sell our country and our grandchildren’s futures.
ANY republican politician that votes for this Lib Welfare Bill needs to be taken out of the political word at all reasonable costs. ANY republican politician that does not turn their back on these turncoats and scorn them out of office, should also be targeted for... retirement.
I saw that. I also saw him on Gretta's show last night. He could not explain why their bill would not work, all he could say was that it was pork. Conversely, he could not explain why different approach would work.
Well, as he himself stated, economics is not his strong suite.
He's such a buffoon. I still detest him for forcing me to give him my vote....Never Forget! lol
And how 'bout the 2 'Rats from ND? Isn't ND a solid red state, with Dorgan up in 2010?
So, if they sell us down the river of socialism...
What are our legal actions to take against them?
Voinovich retires in 2010, can he be sued for failure to uphold his oath of office?
You think he will do that?
The GOP in the past has been known to let conservatives swing in the wind, B1 Bob Dornan for one and Tom McClintock for another.
Reversing course could save the party.
Freepers in their states should start letting them know what they think about the Porkulus plan. We need to hold these RINO’s feet to the fire.
“Can we give Maine to Canada or Denmark?”
How about Iceland.
But that isn't really what this is about, is it?
Ain’t he retiring?
Snarlin’ is the worst of the worst!
