(excerpted)... According to NFL VP of Officiating Mike Pereira, the replay official upstairs did see the play clearly.
We confirmed it was a fumble, said Pereira. The replay assistant in the replay booth saw it was clearly a fumble. The ball got knocked loose and was rolling in his hand before it started forward. He has to have total control.

Is no one reading the article?
Nobody is disputing that the officials made that call. Nobody is disputing that the replay official and the league both confirmed it. Many are disputing whether they were right to do so. Are you incapable of understanding the concept of officials being wrong about something?
I thought the Cardinals played a great game and would not have bitched if they won. I don't believe that Fitzgerald's TD catch was complete but the Steeler's didn't challenge it so you can't go back and cry foul.
As to the Seahawks game, I have watched each disputed call at least 50 times on dvd and vhs on a big screen, high def they were all legitimate. That technology is good for something, it usually just makes hollyweirds uglier.
The Cards were poorly coached. 18 seconds left in the first half you take the 3 points and reconfigure your offense during half time.
Warner was rushing the play to allow enough time for a field goal if he couldn't get the touch down. That play was the difference between winning and losing. Shades of the NY Giants when they ran the ball instead of taking a knee.
Well stated. Many questionable calls, quite sad.
Zebras need to stay the f out of the way and let them play.
Y’all need to just stop your whining...how many plays are in the game? The Cardinals had more than enough opportunities to win. Hells bells, James Harrison was held on just about every play if ya wanna cry about sumthin!
Holding happens on nearly ever play in a football game. It’s up to the refs to fairly call it equally on both sides.
‘As I have explained, the part I do not understand is the mental affliction that would cause someone to look at a historical fact and claim it is not so.’
Globull Warming is a fact as well according to you, as the ‘consensus’ says it’s so.
The play in question is up to interpretation (obviously because well meaning people see it differently), so it isn’t a ‘fact’.
Yep and I also think the Steeler’s owner, Rooney, is an a$$ for supporting “zero” and his comments after the game.
The Stealers are now in the same category asthe San AnPhonio Sterns of the NBA.
They were GIVEN the game by the refs. Holmes did not get both feet down. His right foot was in contact with the sole of his left foot and never touched turf. Total bullshit.
A very dirty win, if you can even call it that. Tainted forever.
Jokyfo:
Arizona had triple coverage on Holmes who caught the ball anyway with a postage-size stamp of endzone to land in, and you're arguing over the position of the sole of his left foot never mind that both toe tips were clearly inside the field.
The other desperate argument we've been hearing today hinges on that Kurt Warner wasn't getting his ass nearly sacked in a proper NFL-approved manner which unjustly caused him to drop the football.
Let's not make pathetic excuses for Arizona's lousy performance yesterday. Interception at the goal line with a 100-yard return? Debating over the QB's arm traveling a half inch forward and the position of the bottom left quadrant of the underside front cleat pad of the receiver who caught a clear winning touchdown is just sad and miserable.
Anyone who had nothing to lose in yesterday's game could easily see who the dominating team was all game long. The 2008 Cardinals were the weakest team ever to make the Super Bowl and they received what was expected.
Agree about college ball. That said, if the game is close enough that one bad call or even a few costs you the game, then you didn’t do your job. Anyone who has played football at any refd level knows this.
I’m a Brownie, so I really had no dog in last night’s fight. Saw bad calls both ways. The Steelers won by the agreed upon rules. It’s over. That is, until my Buckeyes take apart USC in a grudge match at the start of next season...
Thank you. I wish some of your fellow Browns fans could overcome their Steeler Derangement Syndrome and share your view. Some of the guys I know were simply unbearable today with their whining about it.
It's a fact that it was interpreted as a fumble. Now the question is, was it the correct interpretation?
They cheated....we’ll have to call it a draw. :P
It is a fact that it was a fumble.
No, it is not. Do not lie about my positions.
...as the consensus says its so.
The play is not a fumble because of 'consensus.' It is a fumble because it is a fumble. Look it up.
The play in question is up to interpretation (obviously because well meaning people see it differently), so it isnt a fact.
It IS a fumble. That is a fact. You can look it up if you want, you need only scroll to the top of this thread. It's right there.
