Inflation Hypothesis Doesn't Measure Up to New Data (growing body of evidence contradicts Big Bang)
ICR ^ | January 30, 2009 | Brian Thomas, M.S.

Posted on 01/30/2009 10:54:50 AM PST by GodGunsGuts

Since the Big Bang story of the origin of the universe has been refuted by a host of external observations and internal contradictions,1 secular science has been forced to postulate additional, exceedingly improbable events to keep it afloat. One of these is “inflation,” which attempts to explain the apparent uniformity of the universe.2 But new observations by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe are forcing cosmologists to revamp inflation, at the cost of inventing yet another miraculous event to prop it up...

Can you think for yourself or are you only capable of cutting and pasting from dubious sites?

The smart-aleck answer is that I don't post anything from dubious sites like CRI. :-)

The second answer is to ask you to look back through my comments. If I quote something, I give a citation and usually enclose it in blockquotes. If I've posted the same quotes several times, like the one from Augustine, I sometimes do not provide a link but I do provide an attribution.

If something is not cited or attributed, then it was written by me. I may check a remembered fact for accuracy, but I do not pass off the work of others as my own. It's called plagiarism.

Every job I've had since my mid-twenties has involved a lot of writing. Much of my writing has been for attorneys, some of it for publication, and some of it to word something highly technical in ways that my targetted audience can understand. If I plagiarized or did not provide citations when I needed to, I would lose my job.

On the other hand, you frequently do not attribute what are obvious quotes to the person who wrote them. Why?

I had never thought of it as a heresy. I’ll have to think on it.

I wrote to GGG several weeks ago that the two greatest heresies are (1) Gnosticism -- very prevalent and growing; and (2) Young-Earth Creationism.

Gnosticism keeps people in the church from truly knowing and walking with God.

Young-Earth Creationism is such a huge denial of reality that it keeps people from becoming Christians. If Christians are telling lies about science, then how do the lost know that they are not teaching lies about the nature of God and how Jesus died for our sins so that we may have eternal life and fellowship.

I saw Hugh Ross several years ago. How do I say this politely.....he was not in command of the facts.

I've never seen him or a video of him. I do know that his credentials are rock-solid and that his books are well-researched and well-written. I've loaned his books to many -- believers and unbelievers alike -- and every single person has returned them to me with good reviews.

Perhaps Ross is uncomfortable speaking in public or mangles his sentences. Moses was not a good speaker, George Bush did not do well with teleprompters, and Obama almost makes me want to believe him. If Ross is not good at speaking in public, I'm not going to slam him for it.

IIRC, the entire solar-system is supposedly exempt from this expansion.

Sorry, but that is incorrect. It's probably another myth pushed by Young-Earth Creationists.

The solar system is held together by gravity. If the expansion of space is stronger than gravitational attraction, then expansion wins. If gravity is stronger, then gravity wins.

Same thing with, say, two magnets. If they are a mile apart, there is no magnetic attraction. If they are half-an-inch apart, there is strong magnetic attraction (or repulsion, depending upon the polarity alignment.

The expansion of space takes place on a much greater scale then, say, the room in your house. Does this explain it well?

By the way, the notion of the expansion of space is something that is easily proved by observation. It's a fact that is not even in question.

Nice "meeting" you, Mike! May our fellowship grow in His grace!

Amen! Likewise with you.

So are you telling me that being a physical chemist has not shaken your belief in God? After all, you're exposed to "atheist science" everyday and may even "worship at the Temple of the Cult of Darwin" according to many of these commenters.

God's creation is wonderful. Every day I am amazed at his power and his works.

Dude, you are so stuck on yourself, it’s not even funny. No wonder you are so prone to fall into error.

But, you have still not answered my question. How does it feel to have been DECIEVED by the fidgety-Ross into thinking that Augustine was condemning biblical creationists, when in reality he was condemning old earth/”pagan” compromisers such as yourself.

Do you have any other quotes by early church fathers that were taken out of context by the fidgety-Ross and fed to his gullible followers so they can go and make fools out of themselves—not to mention make a mockery of Christianity—on public forums such a FreeRepublic?

You have no idea the damage that you and the fidgety-Ross are doing to the cause of Christianity (or do you?).

==I wrote to GGG several weeks ago that the two greatest heresies are (1) Gnosticism — very prevalent and growing; and (2) Young-Earth Creationism.

What is so tragic is that DallasMike used one of Hugh Ross’s many misrepresentations of the early church fathers (Augustine in this particular case) as an authority to lable biblical creation as heresy. As it turns out, Augustine was referring to old-earth/”pagan” compromisers (such as Hugh Ross) as heretical. When I pointed this out to DallasMike, he just moved on to his next slur against biblical creationists without acknowledging his (and Hugh Ross’s) error. DallasMike is just one in a long list of gullible non-Reasons to Believe devotees who follow Hugh Ross’s heretical teaching and get themselves into trouble.

How is putting the word of men over the word of God now representative of 'authentic' Christianity? Are you claiming that gnosticism is 'authentic Christianity'?

The answer to both questions is no. I don't know anything I've said that would cause you to make those assumptions.

Did I miss something, or did DallasMike flee his own word study challenge? Typical fidgety-Rossite.

“The big bang today relies on a growing number of hypothetical entities, things that we have never observed—inflation, dark matter and dark energy are the most prominent examples.”

  1. Scientists have observed inflation since 1929. It's real and it's measurable.
  2. Scientists have observed the effects of dark matter and have measured it through observing sheer.
  3. The evidence for dark energy is overwhelming.

There, I've proved to you that the very first sentence is a lie.

I'll ask you this question: Why do Young-Earth Creationists have to resort to lying to prove their inaccurate interpretation of the Bible?

God is truth. These people do not tell the truth, but draw in well-meaning Christians with lies that ultimately make many doubt their faith. Please, do not end up this way.

I sent you to sites that explained things in laymans's terms. If you want technical papers, then "I'm your huckleberry" as Doc Holliday often said.

3)

Since you are "made in the image of God", which of the above is your body modeled after??

That one's easy.

D. None of the above!

One cannot in ANY scientific sense speak of “before the Big Bang;” it’s a nonsense phrase like “sucked into a vacuum,” or “letting the cold out.”

Yes, I know that, and I think that the post you are referring bears that out. I can't really think of the right word to say. Perhaps it's best to say that time, matter, space, and energy came into being with the Big Bang.

The difference between Betty Boop and Alamo-Girl is that they allow for different viewpoints amongst Christians, rather than damning those who disagree over interpretational issues. I have interacted with both many, many times, and I have never once been treated by either like I’m the enemy. You and DallasMike are a whole different breed of “Christian.” And until you tone down your condemnatory rhetoric, you can bet I will be ready to great you with ALL the respect you deserve.

No, we're scientists who have had to clean up after the mess that you've made.

Am I a little rough on this issue? Yes. Read Galatians, the books to the Corinthians. Paul was extremely blunt. Read the Gospels, Jesus was no shrinking violet.

I've seen what the Young-Earth Creationist movement has done. I have to work doubly hard spreading the Gospel to people who think that every Christian is living in the Dark Ages. I've had to help restore faith to people who have been duped by the movement you're so proud of.

Make sense?

No. You have completely -- perhaps unknowingly -- distored things.

Read the first two chapters in Genesis from the perspective of someone standing on planet earth and what they would have seen. It all falls into line.

I'll get to it. A lot of posters had a lot of questions. And unlike you, I answer questions. You have yet to answer questions from me. Yet you have the nerve to call me impolite.

==Scientists have observed inflation since 1929. It’s real and it’s measurable.

Are there no end to your misreprentations? And from your own sources no less! First you repeat a typical Rossite misrepresentation of St. Augustine, and now you put your lying words into the mouth Gary Felder. Like the fidgety-Ross, either you are ignorant, a liar or both.

From YOUR OWN source:

“Physicists have tried for decades to formulate theories that could eliminate both the questionable assumptions and the problematic particles associated with the standard big bang model. Currently the only plausible candidate is a theory called inflationary cosmology”

You have no idea the damage that you and the fidgety-Ross are doing to the cause of Christianity (or do you?).

I'm not very bright, so can someone here explain in simple layman's terms exactly what the universe is expanding in to.

That's a very bright question. The answer is that the universe isn't expanding into anything. There is nothing but God outside the universe. Not even space or time.

If you’ll do that then we can take our discussion a bit further. Agreed?

Excellent post and excellent idea. The problem is that Young-Earth Creationists do not like it when you point out that they're wrongly interpreting the Bible to fit their Dark Ages belief. Show them real research and you'll be called a boot-licker of the Temple of the Cult of Darwin in no time at all.
