Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer are "moderate" liberals. And Republican opposition to Obama Supreme Court nominees would constitute a "fake fight" demonstrating that the GOP remains mired in the culture wars. Such was the collective wisdom of two of the roundtable members on ABC's "This Week" today.
Before moving to the substance, a word about the roundtable's lopsided composition, which resembled nothing more than Homecoming for public radio types. To "balance" David Brody of CBN, ABC chose Kurt Andersen of Public Radio International, Alison Stewart of NPR, and John Dickerson of Slate and . . . NPR. Andersen kicked off the Supreme Court segment with his "moderate" liberal comment. Dickerson followed with his pre-emptive warning about that potential Republican "fake fight."

Republicans shouldn’t dare oppose Obama SCOTUS nominees ping to Today show list.
If they are moderate liberals, who are the raidcal ones? Of course, Obama will get whatever he wants, and how dare you try to stop him!
Goebbels and Orwell could do little better than the managing editors in the Mainstream media. Destroy conservatism by completely ignoring the idea and redefining the previous far left as the right, and the extreme left as the “normal” left.
What in the sam hill is a “fake fight”? Either you fight or you don’t.
CBN David Brodie? I am not even sure who`s side he is on? Nor Pat Robertson for that matter!
When Liberals "fight" corruption?
alison Stewart was a news reader on MSNBC. Now she’s an erudite commentator on NPR. She still has that nervous tick in her left eye whenever she lies, which is every time she opens her mouth.
We nominated most of the supreme court justices in the last 28 years. Reagan gave us Alito but also Connor and Kennedy. Bush Senior gave us Souter the turd (helped in no small part by outgoing senator John Sununu’s father who was his chief-of-staff)and Thomas. Bush gave us Roberts and Alito (almost Meyers).
Before that, Ford gave us the turd of John Paul Stevens, and Nixon appointed Blackmun, Powell, Rhenquist, and Burgher (only one of which was actually a conservative).
Most of our guys have batted .500 at best (Bush only batted 1.000 because we forced his hand on Meyers). We should not be defending a one-seat majority on the supreme court, we should be defending a 3-seat majority. It’s disgusting to think of our court swinging to the left if one of our venerable conservative justices were to fall ill after spending so much energy to nominate justices who will actually apply the constitution as written.
I was at the gym and I saw this on tv. Glad I didn’t have to listen to it. Sounds like it was a “fake” discussion.
When Clinton nominated Ginsburg, easily the most radical nominee of the 20th century, maybe ever, only 3 Republicans voted against her.
We can't fix the Republicans unless we recognize what they are.
bumpforlater
yep.
Just like Israel remains mired in a fake war of survival against moderate muslims.
I am so tired of this "Alice in Wonderland" universe the self-styled moderate liberals inhabit.
Their black-is-white and up-is-down hissy fits are just plain humorous at this point.
The collective amnesia is truly spectacular.
The domestic socialists never opposed or blocked any of the Bush appointments.
Uh huh.
I am praying for some real heavy duty fake fights which will last for years... if the GOP grows some.
Chicago politics?
Massachussetts politics?
New York politics?
There is nothiing MODERATE about USSC justices that can not read the 2nd amendment right. They are a disgrace to this country.
The One is perfect. There can be no legitimate opposition to The One.
Were they smoking some of that Hawaiian?
ummmmm, it was President Bush (43) who gave us Alito. Reagan nominated Scalia. (all those Italian names sound the same)
