After he locked up the nomination, McCain began to realize he would lose his comradery with his friends across the aisle and his friends in the media. Johnny loved being on those Sunday morning talk programs. Johnny loved being the Maverick of the Senate. Johnny loved being the spearhead of those various senate gangs. I don't think Johnny Mc really wanted to give all that up. So, he became more interest in 'running' for the presidency than in trying to 'win' the presidency.
Great observation.

He would be mean and nasty to her as he was to Romney. I’m not a big Romney fan but I remember that primary debate. McCain showed more venom at Romney than he ever showed toward Obama.

The opposition is always going to try to demonize and ruin our best natural leaders,
The opposition -- both on the other side of the political spectrum and within the GOP itself -- would not be attacking Gov. Palin if they did not fear her becoming a force in the next few years.
If they don't "take her down now", they may not be able to later. They see what she could become, and it doesn't include them.
She is charismatic. She is appealing. She is personable. She is smart. And that does make her the most dangerous politician in America at the present time -- dangerous to others' political careers and aspirations.

Oh yes it is... how about a mavericky idea that the First Amendment allows one to spend ones own money on promoting those persons that will lead the Nation in a way that you believe in? How is that for a radical idea in today's environment?

Chronic GOP-AttackLEPER and GOP-backstabber Myth Romney deserved it. Gov. Palin did not.
"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Romney) lost Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

McCain lost because he had just as many skeletons as Obama. That's why he couldnt attack Obama on anything. Any other candidate would have beaten Obama and Republications wouldnt have lost as many Senate seats. Worst candidate ever.

I watched Sarah’s speech to the Republican Governors Association on C-Span the other day. She is both competent AND smart, and laid out her vision very well.
I suspect the people who are sniping at her are doing so because they are afraid of her and percieve her as a threat to their own careers.

(Obama, you are NOT my President!)
To: RobinMasters
For a moment pretend that McCain, Biden, Obama were all running against Sarah in a primary. We were asked to make a decision on who achieved the following:
1. Was consistant - Did not change their stand on issues through out the primary.
2. Was direct and told the truth. Inspite of the popularity or unpopularity of an issue - was unambiguous in stating what they stood for no matter who they were addressing.
3. Connected with voters- voters felt they spoke directly to them and understood their circumstances.
4. Expressed their love of America and it’s greatness.
5. Was not a Washington Insider.
6. Was a citizen politician as the forfathers intended. Did not aspire to be Governor,Senator,President from the time they were little.
7. Had both Passion and compassion.
8. Held deep seated values that they were not willing to compromise.
None of the others had all or even part of the above qualitites. The other three candidates had either years of experience or lacked in the ability to get voters to believe in their values rather than changing their values at the first sign of the political winds changing.
Using weather as a way to rate each candidate’s changes in positions to fit the political winds, Obama would have been a full fledged hurrican that blew him from the left to the right. Biden would have been a tornado. He just went around in circles from one gaffe to another. McCain would have been gusts of wind up to 50 miles an hour. Changing some of his positions but staying the course on others. It was just Sarah that had mild breezes, because her beliefs are the majority of American’s beliefs.
Sarah was the only candidate that was not accused of lying or at least glossing over the truth. She gave it to us straight and unvarnished but in a positive hopeful way.
Comparing her to the other candidates is like having a talent show of the best veteran actors and inviting one Amateur to compete against all of them. The fact that she was even competitive showed that she had the ability with a little training and a few lessons to win the competition the next time.
We should be incredibly proud of Sarah. The fact that the media has spent more hours investigating her, ridiculing her and fearing her should be a testement to her abilitites and future in politics.
Our job is to change the debate from what the media and insiders have said about her, to letting the public know that a Star was born this election a star that shines brightly enough to light the way of the Republican in years to come. However we shouldn’t put all of our eggs in one basket, we must also prep and groom other conservative stars so we will be ready for the next congressional election to elect and back the most conservatives in one area.

How did that McCain/Feingold thing workout at keeping all of the money out of politics John?
As much as I detest restriction laws such as McCain-Feingold, it is rather humorous that it turned out to be a 'just dessert' for its creator.
Of course, M-F was only part of McCain's problem. He real problem was that he would not attract donations [period].
His campaign was nearly DOA, partly due to a lack of funds during the primary, but he eeked out a couple of wins and got enough of an injection to make through.
He elected to get public financing because he would not draw enough financial support otherwise.
The real influx of cash did not come to the McCain campaign until he selected Gov. Palin. Then wallets opened.

Were it not for McCain running a loser (”Arizona”-type
he called it after the election) campaign, and Romney
sending out backstabbers in every direction,
Gov. Palin would have been VP-Elect. It was close;
but for weeks, an angry spurned candidate in the GOP
directed the fatal chronic insulting, and unfair “Quayling”
of Gov. Palin and her family.
To: RobinMasters
What Palin needs to do is keep doing her job and do it well. Keep AK working and going. The rest of the US will go to hell in a handbasket looking for Obama favors and handouts.
