Firearms Industry Addresses Rising Gun Sales; Obama Admin. Showing Anti-Gun Cards Early
MarketWatch ^ | 11/10/08 | Staff

NEWTOWN, Conn., Nov 10, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- As firearm sales continue to increase this year, at a rate of 10 percent over the same period last year and 15 percent in October alone, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association for the firearms industry -- is pointing to gun-owner concerns about an Obama Administration as reason for the boom.

Last week President-elect Obama's Web site had posted his administration's agenda for curtailing the Second Amendment rights of law abiding Americans, thereby validating the concerns of gun owners, sportsmen and firearms enthusiasts all across the country. Curiously, the Obama-Biden gun control agenda was taken down from the Web site after just two days.

President-elect Obama's Web site stated he would make permanent the expired "assault weapons" ban of 1994, a ban on firearms that was based on cosmetic appearance, such as the type of stock on the gun, and not functionality. The expired ban did nothing to reduce crime while it was in place. President-elect Obama's Web site intentionally misled the American people by referring to these firearms as "weapons that belong on foreign battlefields." These firearms are not machine guns. In reality, these commonplace firearms that President-elect Obama wants to permanently ban are used in shooting competitions and are found in homes and hunting lodges all across the country. They fire only once with each trigger pull, no spray firing, and they shoot the same ammunition as other firearms of the same caliber.

Welcome indeed!

My family immigrated to Texas after the last Civil War.

This was the haven for those who would not be “reconstructed”.

Besides they burned us out of Georgia.

I’m sure it will be when they rewrite the definition to fit their needs.

I’m not letting a Kenyan raghead “elected” via voter fraud and a bunch of Commie college kiddies take my guns. Sorry

Welcome to the resistance, my friend.

The "ruling" government is made up of three branches, not "One" dictating.

The judiciary and Congress must uphold the mandate of "We the people", "of the People, by the People and For the People!"

We're going to need the Blue Dog Democrats as never before!

I was just watching Studio B with Shep. They did a story on the rising gun sales. Catherine Herridge did the field report for the story. Shep asked her if there was any reason to believe Obama would restrict 2nd Amendment rights. She reported what Obama had said on the campaign trail: No.

My TV was still on FNC from Fox and Friends this morning, and I didn't get the channel changed fast enough, and I heard the report you mention. I started to report on it on FR, as Shep called people buying guns "mental", and implied that their fears where being played upon by the owners of the gun shops. I then turned the channel to try to salvage my blood pressure...

Your right Americans have been trained to be sheeple for the last 50 years. Most Americans think it’s just fine to have DUI checkpoints, big, fancy highly visible “traffic calming” measures were 30 cops line up pull over everybody and give out traffic tickets. Most Americans think that traffic courts are fair places. Most Americans think it’s ok for police to stop you on the street and ask for your i.d. Most Americans think it’s just fine to warehouse huge numbers of people in prison for minor possession stuff. Most Americans think it’s ok for minor traffic tickets to suck people into a jungle of a judicial system. Most Americans think that “family values” legislation is a great idea. I say down with all of that but that makes me a radical, just ask Thomas Jefferson.

There’s some of us in Liberal bastions with the same viewpoint as you.

Come and get them.

Earlier today I showed a neighbor of mine my tiny pistol collection and advised her where to go to buy one and what to get.

She said she has always been anti gun but since November 4th has been wanting to buy one.

I told her to be sure to get it no later than early January.

I don't think so. *I* am a gun-owning union-worker (although I don't trust my union for squat). I'm not grabbing my ankles for *anyone*, particularly some idiot trying to take my "liberty teeth".

Move away from the stupid stereotypes...

I'm with you infoWarrior - I'm from Ohio...hate to see what happens to them if they try to pry my weapons away.

You mean like when the first AWB went into place? I seem to miss the mass uprising, the running gun battles, and the millions of outraged gun owners fighting back when the original AWB took effect...

There was no gun confiscation with the original AWB. Existing "assault rifles" were grandfathered in. That's why there wasn't trouble. You didn't have JBTs kicking down doors to steal people's firearms.

Our Human Resources VP is a flaming liberal, vegetarian, PETA type and asked me to teach her how to shoot a pistol and walk her through the steps of buying one and getting a CCW license. Even the libs are afraid of Obambi.

“This was the haven for those who would not be “reconstructed”.”

It still is and will likely be one of the last holdouts.

Don’t mess with Texas!

Maybe she’s afraid of the newly empowered thuggies that are volunteering as Buttock’s Brownshirts.

Me either,. That is why I bought a new rifle last week. Just squeezed off 80 rounds. Wish decent ammo was cheaper.

“Expect a slew of bills are already written, agreed to, and ready to ram thru Congress the moment a suitable statistically-predictable high-profile crime occurs.”

Funny isn’t it, that government and media never advocate disarmament of the police when an innocent person is shot to death.
