Well, because of the FR outage yesterday I didn’t get to post the links and analysis on the preview. I did them and will post them here just because, but obviously they don’t mean anything now that the shows are over.

I slept in this morning and intentionally avoided both the shows and the thread. I needed a break. In fact I’m not certain I’m going to continue the preview thread. I probably will but I’m not certain.

This is not like when I dropped out at the beginning of the year. I’m bummed out by Tuesday but not burned out. Instead I’m going to be shifting my focus from presidential politics to local politics and get LOTS more involved. I think this is the direction we should concentrate on for now and I will be actively promoting this notion on FR.

Tip O’Neill famously said “all politics is local” and he was right. We need to get involved in the county GOP organizations where we live and learn about the people who are now running our party (or for conservative Dems their party). Where they’re effective we need to find out ways to help. Where they’re not we need to find someone competent to replace them.

That’s my first target here in southwest Tennessee. We have a county GOP head who put up a local guy as a primary challenger to the very good incumbent Marsha Blackburn. His reasoning was that he wanted someone from our county in the seat, even though Blackburn’s been great for us and the district goes almost all the way to Nashville. She beat the challenger and ended up winning reelection, but this year, of all years, she didn’t need the hassle. And we didn’t need the risk. He also has failed to recruit viable candidates for the districts that are currently held by Dems in our area for both Congress and state offices. He needs to go.

I will, over time, expand my scope to “local politics” in other locations. I’m going to solicit from other Freepers info on those races and local party organizations that need help or opposition and find out what I can do. I have a friend at work who is a grass roots organizer for the NRA and I’ve told him I’m available to help, whether its stuffing envelopes or making phone calls. I’m going to get involved.

More on this over the next few weeks, but its my answer to the disaster that has occurred to over republic.

I’ll post the show links next on this thread.

This is how a Colorado Democratic voter views us... he posted this on a non-political site I read sometimes.. this is a guy who was always trashing Bush -- oh, he has a one-year-old child, too.. you would think he would consider his child's future:

It is quite surprising that California voted for 8. Not sure what the big deal is? Why don't the bible thumpers concentrate on eliminating divorce, not try to hold back people that really love each other. Seems pretty hypocritical to me.

you mentioned before the election that you expected that Generation X (of which I happen to be smack dab in the middle of) not to come out and vote. I guess last week's election proved that wrong! Or maybe you got your alphabet confused and meant Generation Y, but then again you would have been wrong because they crushed the vote too. As most of Gen X is in their 30's, we actually do give a sXXX about the direction of our country and we're pretty sick of the current path. I'm not saying that everything the Dems say will turn to gold, but it's the only other better path we have.

Don't be pissed that the GOP is a party of losers, you brought it upon yourselves. You elected officials with poor judgment for the past 8 year and the younger generations have taken note. The GOP have driven a wedge down the middle of the country, and the Liberals have had enough. If the GOP hadn't alienated so many in Gen X and Y McCainwould have had a chance (well maybe not with that bonehead decision to pick Palin).

I don't know what it'll take to get our country back on the same page, undivided and unified. We really need to get past the petty bickering that both sides engage in. Unfortunately it'll probably be another terrorist attack since Iraq is a clusterfuck and Bin Laden is still loose, or a huge natural disaster.

Just give BO a chance, if he doesn't get things at least started in a better direction in 4 years then we can discuss a new plan.

Would that be the issue it is today if Lyndon Johnson had not raided SS and moved it into the general fund to pay for all his social programs? That money left alone and allowed to grow would have taken care of itself pretty well. Now they want to steal more money from us and call it a mandatory retirement fund and pay us a whopping 3% for their use of our money when ever one of us know we could invest that money and get a much healthier return on our investment.

But it wasn’t the party that nominated him, it was people who had no business voting in our primaries. Until someone addresses the Iowa Caucus and NH Open Primary we are destined to keep ending up with bad candidates. When people from MA (and other states) can cross into NH, register and vote on the same day simply by claiming they are planning to move there we are doomed. Heck an army of Pauliestas traveled there to take advantage of that and vote for Paul... and, while we are at it... no more senators or congressmen.

Did you know after people found that on his transition website, and started it they ammended the college section to say they will pay $4000 a year for their 100 hours of service... I don’t believe it or trust it, but they are trying to keep the troops quiet until he is sworn in.

This internet army of O’s is one reason I’ve been thinking it would be a good idea for Newt to head the RNC. One thing is he has amassed quite an email list himself with drill here, drill now... and if we are to fight fire with fire we need someone with a good mind and a good mailing list to pull this bunch of internet stragglers together.

It looks like Twitter may have some sort of connection with Al Gore and his TV station... I saw something on it yesterday, O had paid bloggers to go around the net and post negative things against the conservatives and to make matters worse people like Tapper on his ABC blog continually banned conservatives for posting truth to these Obots... this is a huge and scary power we are up against.

Only 30% of democrat voters even know who Harry Reid is, much less know he is the man who has been in charge the last two years.

I think Newt would be best of the ones mentioned. Yes, we are in a scary mess. We better get busy.

Honestly our best bet is to make sure we get people elected in the 2010 mid terms that won’t allow this to happen in the Congress.

For your consideration

Looking ahead to 2010

What are constuctive things that right-leaning folks can do if they don't like the change in guard this time around? How about look ahead to the 2010 Senate election cycle and try to help those Republicans coming up for re-election keep their seats and assist the Democrats in losing theirs? I picked up a copy of Michael Barone's excellent book, The Almanac of American Politics, 2008 to see what senators are up for re-election. Here is what I found:

Democrats up for re-election

Bayh, Evan (D-IN)

Boxer, Barbara (D-CA)

Dodd, Christopher J. (D-CT)

Dorgan, Byron L. (D-ND)

Feingold, Russell D. (D-WI)

Inouye, Daniel K. (D-HI)

Leahy, Patrick J. (D-VT)

Lincoln, Blanche L. (D-AR)

Mikulski, Barbara A. (D-MD)

Murray, Patty (D-WA)

Obama, Barack (D-IL)

Reid, Harry (D-NV)

Salazar, Ken (D-CO)

Schumer, Charles E. (D-NY)

Wyden, Ron (D-OR)

Republicans up for re-election

Bond, Christopher S. (R-MO)

Brownback, Sam (R-KS)

Bunning, Jim (R-KY)

Burr, Richard (R-NC)

Coburn, Tom (R-OK)

Crapo, Mike (R-ID)

DeMint, Jim (R-SC)

Grassley, Chuck (R-IA)

Gregg, Judd (R-NH)

Isakson, Johnny (R-GA)

Martinez, Mel (R-FL)

McCain, John (R-AZ)

Murkowski, Lisa (R-AK)

Shelby, Richard C. (R-AL)

Specter, Arlen (R-PA)

Thune, John (R-SD)

Vitter, David (R-LA)

Voinovich, George V. (R-OH)

I wonder if Arnold Schwarzenegger might run against Barbara Boxer for her Senate seat or if Chris Dodd will survive his ties to the housing crisis? Perhaps if conservatives and libertarians work together to defeat a few Democrats and keep Republicans in place, 2010 will be a more welcoming place for us. Anyone out there with any concrete ideas on how to go about doing this--other than the obvious such as putting up and running websites like EvanBayhwatch.com etc?

Pasted from <http://drhelen.blogspot.com/2008/11/looking-ahead-to-2010.html>

Everyone needs to look at this list. If your Senator is on it, let us know about them. For the Dems and bad pubbies we need to start recruiting NOW. We need to find the right candidates and all find a way to help, regardless of where we live. Neither of my Senators are up in 2010 but I'm seriously looking for someone to potentially challenge Corker in the 2012 race (he's a "gang of x" type) and definitely starting to look for a replacement for RINO Lamar in 6 years.

I know some conservative Hispanics who are struggling with this very issue. These Hispanics want more Republicans to win because of our values, free markets and what being an American stands for. What is hard, for us, is how to help them grow the Hispanic base without alienating people over the illegal immigration problem.

Remember Tito The Builder from Palin's rally? We need to get him to do some ads in Spanish for us. And we need a 527 to help with this.

Did you ever watch any of McCain’s townhalls? He never really answered questions presented to him, he would usually ignore the question and tell the person why his position on that was the right thing; it was very telling... and 30 minutes of the hour was usually a soliloquy followed by very few questions and answers.

I agree with you, my FRiend.

I am truly bummed. Big time, to quote Dick Cheney.

I don't believe our candidates lost as much as they were overwhelmed, once again, by the driveby media and their pro-liberal bias. We can't compete politically until this bias is overcome.

To that end I will fight the real power in America, the media. My problem is that I don't know how.

I think Newt has a credibility problem with too many in the party and too much baggage. I like Newt but he likes himself too much. Something is pricking my brain that Newt was given credit for Contract With America as a diversion for something. Wish I could remember but maybe someone else here will.

Republicans up for re-election

Bond, Christopher S. (R-MO)

You are ahead of the curve.
I could have sworn I heard in the local media here in Columbia, MO
that Bond was NOT running again in 2010.

But looks like you are correct and BOND IS RUNNING IN 2010.
Proabably the media report I heard was just wishful thinking by
the liberal college students working at our NBC affiliate KOMU!!!
