He never really answered questions presented to him, he would usually ignore the question and tell the person why his position on that was the right thing; it was very telling... and 30 minutes of the hour was usually a soliloquy followed by very few questions and answers.

Yes, I noticed that too. In retrospect, he didn’t behave like a candidate who had the fire in him to want to win. And when, at his rallies, he would say to his supporters, “You don’t have to fear Obama as your president. He is a kind and decent man.” McCain just kept reminding me of why I didn’t vote for him in the primaries! Governor Palin was the best thing that happened to that ticket.
