If we cut spending with our military and use the savings to fund this new 'civilian national security force', what will we have saved and why do it at all? Where do our state militias fall in all this? Wouldn't they be considered 'civilian national security forces'? What about our National Guard?

I'm very suspicious of this 'new' group and dislike cutting funding to our military.

Isn't one of our rights the right to a strong defense? Isn't trying to undermine and underfund our military unconstitutional?

Occupying the country with a Federally controlled army. The insanity of this is mind boggling. What about posse comitatus? I guess he’ll have to wait for the system to be developed under the guise of community activism and simultaneously stack the judiciary more before arming the brownshirts. This article seems to talk about the issues with a civilian “national security force” in terms of $$. But what about purpose? How is this different from Dept of Homeland Security, FBI, Border Patrol, and police? My fear is that this is a Gestapo of some kind, devoted to special projects, like: confiscating guns, monitoring media (including Internet) for “fairness”, enforcing “tolerance”, etc. Whatever the rationale, fighting terrorism will be a distant second.

Posse comitatus keeps the Department of Defense from enforcing civilain laws. The U.S. Coast Guard is a military force in the Dept. of Homelan Security. The Coast Guard can and does board your boat without a warrant even it it is tied up at a dock and you live on it. During heavy Mississippi river flooding a decade ago, the Army Corps of Engineers requested The Coast Guard provide boarding officers with force authorized qualifications to provide security if the Corps decided to blow the levees upstream to flood farmland areas and relieve the pressure on cities. The Obama administration can either rescind posse comitatus or transfer military, maybe National Guard, to a non Defense Dept. agency and bingo, you have a National SWAT team with armored vehicles and (black) helicopters. Worked real well at Waco huh? The question is, what makes Obama think he's going to need this kind of force?
