Report cites Frank's proposal to cut military 25%
President-elect Barack Obama raised questions during an election campaign stop in Colorado Springs when he asserted the U.S. needs a "civilian national security force" that would be as powerful, strong and well-funded as the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force, but few of those questions have been answered.
But now one report is proposing a possible solution for part of the equation: From where would the money for such an organization come? Democrats in Congress now are floating the idea of cutting U.S. military spending by 25 percent, or $150 billion a year, and according to a report from blogger Jay Tea, that could be used for the new "security force."
The idea to cut the military, proposed by Rep. Barney Frank, already is being opposed by Republicans.
Frank, D-Mass., recently told a newspaper the Pentagon will have to start choosing the cuts from its weapons programs because he wants to slash more than $150 billion from the estimated $607 billion in defense spending already approved for fiscal year 2008.
Sen. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., argued America now is fighting terror worldwide, including active wars in Afghanistan and Iran, and that has stretched the capabilities of the military already.
He warned cutting funding in such a drastic way would be irresponsible.
"You know if we don't make the right decisions about the military nothing else will matter will it? Because if we don't have a free country then you know what do these other programs matter at all? That's the number one responsibility," he said.

I hear that, but I see them immediately changing immigration policy in order to quickly do what I mentioned.
The American public has no say now. Republican opposition is dropping like flies in a DDT factory. The coup is nearly complete and we will be powerless to stop them after they open the borders.
Re: I say this with a heavy heart but the best way to trim the Military budget by 25% is to abolish the Marine Corps.
Yes trim the budget and destroy the finest fighting force America has.
The Marine Corps is our least emaculated military service in spite of all the politically correct, social engineering, touch feely, sensitivity training imposed on our armed services by the democrats.

You are exactly correct. Obama himself said, that the “free” College he would give was not without obligation, that they would be required to serve in his “civilian” corps.
I expect an emergency tax increase to get it under way, also, rapid reduction of the military to channel those funds for that main purpose.
I wish I could share your enthusiasm but with the remnants of the DBM still plugging along for Obozo there is little he can do short of setting off a nuke on Ala. or Ga. that would not be covered up by the DBM.
The same fools that voted for bamby will still be around,a little bit more broke, and will make the same mistake over and over since they never learn,only drink,do drugs, watch mtv and look for freebies wherever and whenever they can find them. If the job of exposing these criminals is to be done it will have to be done here in the New Media and then dribbled out to the public as best we can.
Thats one of the reasons they have to attack talk radio ASAP. Conservative talk radio has the capability of taking them out and they know it.

Maybe that's what Biden was referring to when he said Obama would be tested in 6 months and people wouldn't like the response but we should have faith and be supportive?

Its’ certainly getting creepy all-right. Pravda on Fox keep saying president-elect O... but President Bush was just Bush. Pravdas’ of this world will address the o with its’ correct title. Here in NH... we only have 1 news station that I refuse to listen... they are sooo giggy with excitment its’ sickening.
In addition to demoralizing the troops and reducing effectiveness, such a move would also bankrupt the defense contractors. This is not just about a civilian force. It cuts into the defense subculture at it’s very core. My brother flies a bird that’s older than he is now.
Well, at least they’ll dress cool.
What would the duties of the new internal military be exactly?
Enforce borders?
Added internal military members to help the local police?
ID checks in neighborhoods? Listening in on phone calls, internet? Talking to neighbors?
Policing dissidents?
We already have a Homeland security. A national policeforce is a way around posse comitatus.
One of the BIG ideas of the left is to have everyone live, work, play and travel within a defined area of no more than a walking space or small transit area. Going outside the area would need a permit to ostensibly reduce pollution and global warming and also to keep life “sustainable.”
Your life would be lived within this sphere with your local representatives chosen from within. Of course, those local representatives would be hand-picked.
Are we having fun yet?
Look for a second bloody civil war to break out.

May I humbly suggest that due to the outrageousness of the Messiah's comments on a civilian national security force that you e-mail the link and a clip from this article to as many of your friends and family as you think worthy and/or capable on understanding what Obama is suggesting.
This article would be a great introduction to what FreeRepublic is all about. And for the poor foolish sheeple that voted for Obama maybe it will be the beginning of an eye opening introduction to who they have placed in charge of the last great hope for freedom on planet earth.
