Discovered FR thanks to conservative Boston based talk show host Howie Carr. Thanks Howie!

I think it was Rush’s show in 1998.

I have a similar story to yours. Not sure how I got here, but it was off Drudge or some other source of info about Whitewater. I was here for a while under a different handle from which my name was identifiable, sometime between 1996 and 1997. There was a really basic interface, and the main topic was Whitewater investigation stories.
This place exploded when the blue dress story came along. There were some stories on here about Clintonistas harassing posters on FR, so in July 98 I deleted my old account and created a new one.
Speaking of the old days, where is Mia T lately?

Evening!
I’m in and out this evening, America’s Got Talent is down to the last 5 and I’m only popping in here during commercials.
At least three of the five finalists have what it takes to put on an hour and a half show in Vegas...

Thanks for your kind thoughts. Yes, I not only got through the storm O.K., but was only without power for about 3 hours one morning. We were incredibly fortunate. Some of us were joking that our apt complex must run on angel-power or something. We were among the 1-2% in Houston who had power and water almost the whole time.

.I remember the Ash Alerts, the "close yer tags" and "No Italians" posts, the cries of "disruptor" before the word "troll" was even invented, Eschoir and Batjack and Deep In the Hurtgen Forest and Classy Green-Eyed Blonde. Don't forget the White House Basement Boiler Room.
And I am so glad that Jim fixed that close your tags thing. LOL. I had forgotten about that. We would get an entire thread in bold or italics.
Wasn't this a Bulletin Board site before it was a web site? I seem to recall dialing in in the early days. Or was that somewhere else I am thinking of?

My Brother introduced me to FR on January 9,06. I signed up the same day!
:)
I changed my name to Majie Purple recently, but Jim R. let me keep my orig.start date!(N’that made my posts change to the Majie Purple name too...Allllllll the way back to the beginning.)
No worries, I just wasn’t aware at the time, that would happen, along with the request.
I love my new name & the same start date to boot!!
:)

Oh yea it was bad there and also here in Ohio. My youngest sister just got electic back 2 days ago. We were down for about 12 hours but being in the city it came back fairly quick. Lots of trees down everywhere.

Hi AZ, Kathy.
I discovered FR quite by accident (is anything really by accident?) on my way to FOXNEWS.
It was in 2004, during the elections. After reading about FR in (ironically) a NEW YORK TIMES article, I bookmarked it out of curiosity, but sort of forgot about it. Then, several months later, I clicked it by mistake — intending FOXNEWS instead.
At the time Arafat had unofficially died, and I glanced at the posts about him. Then really started reading them. They were so funny, I couldn’t stop.
Since then I have become a fullblown addict. Literally. I get neurotic when I’m away from FR too long.
For me, FR has been a lifeline, especially coming 3 months after my father’s death & some unresolved grief. It really put me in a different place mentally.
It has also been humbling. I didn’t realize how naive & uninformed I was about the world. I really bow my head to a lot of the folks here.
