John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Fridays scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen, McCain said.
That’s swell and all, but that does nothing to aid the diminishing availability of credit (or lack thereof). LOL
Thanks for the info though! That and $1 may still buy me a burger at McDonald’s.
Obama is all about Obama. He does not care about us Americans. He thinks he can fly his big ole plane back to Mississippi and do half day work in Washington.
If anything this should OPEN EYES to who will work for American and who will work for themself.
“there is no guarantee that this solution will stave off a possible Depression”
that’s the problem
I stated Intrade was more accurate than FR, which you do not dispute. You make up and knock down a straw man, that I promulgated a doctrine of Intrade infallibility, when I did no such thing.
Welcome to FR, BTW.
I wasn’t nervous until today. I actually comtemplated ‘How many of us are going to lose our jobs”. I work for a small business and things have not looked good recently. Now this.
It truly is a possibility.
The Communist Nattering Naybobs (CNN) are lying for Obama now as I write!
The problem with Intrade is the same as with any other self-selecting sample. Either they're trying to guess what happens next, or they're trying to force the results to some desired result.
What they're not -- almost by definition -- is a reliable predictor of anything close to the truth. At best, they're harbingers of what's already obvious. Mostly, though, they're just guessing.
and some saying it’s a DESPERATION move on McCain’s part??? who is desperate? mccain is neck and neck with the annointed one in every poll, and common wisdom is that obams needs to be up at least a few percent above MOE in order to counter the expected bradley effect. so again i ask, WHO is desperate?
I personally could care less. Giving money to the same @ssholes that F'd everything up in the first place is moronic. He can scare all he wants.
The number of trolls on this thread reveals the success of McCain’s move.
Someone needs to tell the ONE that he is a sitting UNITED STATES SENATOR, and that the people who elected him to the Congress of the United States need his input, not a promise to phone it in, if needed.
If this is how he is representing the People of Illinios, imagine how bad it will be for ALL of us if this clown gets elected!!!
So what. These people are going to vote for Obama anyway. I wouldn't worry about them.
McCain did exactly the right thing...
not only that, what about foreign affairs do you think McCain...the navy vet...the war vet and the long time Senator of distinction not CLOBBER the little senator who thinks we have 57 states and that Iran is just a little country and we don't have to worry about it.....

“What people seem to fail to realize is that MOST businesses rely on credit.”
I do understand that, and agree that something close to this plan is probably needed. But in this thread, stating that McCain’s action today is not really helping matters is an entirely different line of discussion.
And, I think I’ll be pleased to have been one of the few who considered this showboating. It’s not looking so much like some brilliant move on McCain’s part.
I was at a local bank depositing checks today and found out there is NO credit for mortgages because no one will underwrite no matter how good the credit of the borrower. It is affecting a lot of places. Got my car serviced and found out Toyota is not writing car loans right now — no underwriting here.
This is Oklahoma that it is affected with a 4% unemployment rate so tell me it is not even worse elsewhere.
Time to act and then go after the culprits who caused it.
Yep Omama is a turd in the punchbowl yet my point is he’s shirking this job as he seeks another. One he’s not qualified to have.......his JOB is Senator. To say he’ll go there when asked is a cop out...... just like he’s been doing since GOP camp has sought MANY debates !
Now he’s ready when the house is on fire ?
Cow Crap !
“not to worry the trolls are being found out on this thread and hope-full banned”
Careful. Some of those here that are being labeled trolls are really long-time engaged FReepers, with real concerns. I’d hate to see a truly concerned person get banned just because they don’t agree on all points.
Most of us may not share their fears, but it doesn’t mean the fears are insincere.
Obama won't touch that with a ten foot pole!!! That's his worst nightmare.
If he doesn't have his teleprompter - his 'walkie-talkie' guy that he has plugged in his ear gets screwed up & he stutters & fumbles when someone has not written his speech to read & when his ear piece fouls up & he can't hear what the guy is prompting him to say.
He also would have to answer some audience questions - and since he's trying to stay under the radar - a town hall meeting with McCain is not going to happen.
