ROCKWELL A Depot Street couple discovered Sunday that someone did more than just disagree with their choice for president.
Someone spray-painted a racial slur on the Barack Obama campaign sign in their front yard.
Sharon Osetek, who is black, and her husband, Alan Osetek, who is white, were leaving their Depot Street home Sunday morning when they discovered someone had spray-painted the word "n-----" on the Obama sign in front of their house.
The sign is blue with the names Obama and Biden printed in white. The sign is outlined in white and a lighter shade of blue.
Someone had sprayed the slur in white across the sign.
The couple were on their way to Obama's campaign rally in Charlotte Sunday and were leaving their home around 7:45 a.m.
On their way out of the driveway, Sharon noticed the writing.
"It was shock," she said. "Even though I knew I was in that type environment, it didn't really bother me until yesterday."
Alan was driving, and he didn't immediately get a good look at the sign. But Sharon did.
"I could pretty much make it out at the time," she said. "It was written on both sides."
Alan was a bit skeptical at first. He told his wife he didn't believe someone would actually write the "N word" on their sign.
But he soon saw it, too.
The couple decided to continue on to the rally, leaving the sign in place at the edge of their yard.
The Oseteks chose to leave the sign up to "show the ignorance that still goes on," Sharon said.
"I was hoping I didn't live in this type community," she said.
When they arrived home, the sign was gone. As they approached their front porch, it was lying near the steps.

Yeah - seems like a ‘manufactured’ event. When the media starts exposing what Sarah has gone through from Obama cell group/camp - then this may have value. Right now what comes to mind is BO’s comment ‘a pig with lipstick is still a pig’ and his followers laughing and clapping.
Yep, most likely done by Obama himself.
Funny, how this story pops up when ‘race affecting the election’ is in the news.
Which candidate does this hurt or help? There’s your answer.
Makes sense the black woman would leave the sign up since she likely defaced it herself. Some well-meaning neighbor probably took it down and put it on the porch while the sign-owner was at the campaign rally.
Unless the vandal was some true (and random) racist/bratty teen, I call BS and say the black woman painted the slur herself. “Republicans” simply do not do this sort of thing —never.
I think I’ll paint “cracker” on one of my two McCain yard signs and then start yelping about it.
That’s it! The liberals play the ‘victim’ card. Actually, the only tools they have are ‘victim, intimidation and attack’.
The evidence is in the testimony that says they left the house and left the sign up for all to see, but it was down when they returned. Now who would leave that sign up? No one.

Without a trial or any specific evidence, and going on LOOKS ONLY, I'm going to have to say:
GUILTY!!
Know how they found the perp?
When I was in college I was a RA in my dorm. we used to have a real big problem with people pulling the fire alarms at 2 in the morning. We would have to evacuate all of the residents and check every room for fire. It was a huge pain in the rear. After about the 10th or 15th time I told the campus cops that they could put some fluorescent dye on the fire alarms switches that was invisible in normal light, but visible under a blacklight. They put it on and the next time the alarm went off they simply went around and shined the black light on all of the doorknobs in the dorm. When they found the one with the transfered dye, they ask me who lived in there, and when they confronted him about it, he immediately denied doing it, even after the police shined the light on his hands and you could see the dye on them. That was the last night for over a year that the fire alarm was pulled!
You may want to ping the NC list...
Great idea! But it wouldn’t work on a neighborhood scale. And,,,, I like the thought of all the discomfiture the poison ivy will cause!
"It was written on both sides."
Wouldn't it have been more accurate to paint "Whitey" on one side? It would've at least been funnier...
I don't remember hearing about this. I do remember scattered reports of Republican offices being broken into though.
Ok, so they're pulling out of their driveway... She could "pretty much" make it out ON BOTH SIDES, while her husband was skeptical? This makes NO sense.
If something like this happened and upset me so, at the very least, we'd have gotten out of the car so I could show my husband what I saw. Furthermore, if I saw something and my husband said, "No, that couldn't have been there" I'd be ticked off at him. This smacks of the two of them trying to portray themselves as balanced and rational.
Bragging to his boyfriend who bragged to his friends. Nothing ever became of it..
