New poll: Despite Palin, Obama leads in Ohio

WASHINGTON -- When a new Rasmussen poll this week showed John McCain with a healthy lead in Ohio, the head of the Ohio Democratic Party observed that polls come, and polls go. He wasn't kidding.

A new Quinnipiac University poll of Ohio this morning puts Barack Obama ahead in this swing state, not McCain.

Quinnipiac University assistant polling director Peter Brown explains why:

"Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama are getting the same level of party loyalty and the Republican is even winning slightly among independents. But Obama is ahead because there are so many more people who identify as Democrats -- a legacy of the 2006 election and scandals involving former Gov. Robert Taft's administration."

I'll stick with Rasmussen, thank you. Quinnipiac is a notable outlier to the left side of polling, probably by design.

I read this poll hours ago, and I think it’s completely wrong. Ohio is for McCain.

Quinnipiac was ranked near the very bottom for accuracy the last election.

I agree. They probably oversampled Dems but their website didn’t give data about their sample. This sounds bogus.

very interesting stuff. It looks like everything is shifting our way right now. Even Wisconsin and Oregon are trending toward us.

If 0bama's internals show the same thing we should really start seeing some desperation out there.

No data about sample and say McCain is not wining enough whites in PA and Ohio, what bull, thats rubbish.

The fact these pollsters work from a university in CT just about explains it for me.

Q poll is embarrassing sometimes. McCain is leading in Ohio.

Indeed. I'll bet that they don't account for "Operation Chaos", in which many Rush Limbaugh listeners switched their registration from GOP to RAT just so they could vote for Hillary Clinton. Impact of OC on Ohio was significant.
