Amie Parnes reports from Lebanon, VA:
Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra.
"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."
"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."
"We've had enough of the same old thing."
The crowd apparently took the "lipstick" line as a reference to Palin, who described the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull in a single word: "lipstick."
LOL! That should be a tagline!
RE: “Before he said it he looked a bit nervous. Put his hand to head and then blurted it out. What an idiot. Hes way out of his league.”
Oh yeah, way out of his league indeed. Hillary is laughing; this is easier than she thought it would be a few weeks ago.
I heard earlier on FOXNEWS that his campaign office replied that McCain used the phrase in reference to Hillary. That would be a flat out "No we are not going to apologize" response in my opinion.
These disgusting remarks will forever be known as “Obama’s Lipstick Moment.” Reminiscent of the infamous “Kitty Dukakis Moment.”
“Obama’s Lipstick Moment” will be referenced by all future political analysts as the moment that Obama lost the election.
You just made me think of something.
I know it's a stretch, because obviously, Baracko isn't a deep thinker ---- but do you suppose that he feels like he's living in some kind of nightmare, and in a single desperate moment, decided to end it?
Do you suppose that he's made a private choice to surrender, and is making all of these suicidal remarks to sabotage his own campaign?
You know, he's a smoothie from the Chicago streets. A hustler of the first order, if there ever was one. He hustled millions of Americans to follow him, even without a resume or a record of accomplishment. He could be doing the same thing now - just letting them down easy.
Just a theory, but what do you think?
In some crowds, the fishy reference is effectively 'the c word.' And I call out BS that the speech writers/focus groupies/the speechifyer himself didn't recognize it.
Yuppers!
Based on the first 20 or so comments on here it appears people don’t understand an expression when they see one.
Putting lipstick on a pig makes it still a pig is as old as I can remember.
Well, we need some political duct tape to hold him together for 57 more days. Hillary CAN NOT step in.
At the very least, McCain should demand he apologize to Palin.
Put 'er there, pard. I delivered the family to Texas from California two years ago.
That’s true. Kerry in his NASA space suit — what a hoot that was. And yes, this is worse.
Being serious for a moment: we need to pray for the Palin family. — FRegards ....
>> Of course he did
Do you really think he meant to associate Palin personally with ‘stinky fish’? Do ya’ really think that???
"Pore Barack. He caint hep it..."
You’re right...it is an old saying. Since Wednesday’s speech by Sarah, however, the word ‘lipstick’ has been very much associated with her. Have you ever heard Obama use that expression before today?
So much NUANCE...so little time.
Sarah should say, “Poor Barry. He thinks he’s tangling with a pig, when in fact, he’s tangling with a pit bull.”
There are about 948 subsequent posts that will explain the outrage better for you. It should only take 3 or 4 hours to catch up :)
