After months of record-breaking fund-raising, a new sense of urgency in Senator Barack Obamas fund-raising team is palpable as the full weight of the campaigns decision to bypass public financing for the general election is suddenly upon it.
Pushing a fund-raiser later this month, a finance staff member sent a sharply worded note last week to Illinois members of its national finance committee, calling their recent efforts extremely anemic.
At a convention-week meeting in Denver of the campaigns top fund-raisers, buttons with the image of a money tree were distributed to those who had already contributed the maximum $2,300 to the general election, a subtle reminder to those who had failed to ante up.
The signs of concern have become evident in recent weeks as early fund-raising totals have suggested that Mr. Obamas decision to bypass public financing may not necessarily afford him the commanding financing advantage over Senator John McCain that many had originally predicted.

You could be correct.
I believe I read he needed to raise roughly $100 million a month in order to offset the money he could have received from public financing and the DNC. Maybe the NYT is publishing this as a fund raising effort to get the Obambi supporters to dig a little deeper and send their money in right away.
Americans love a winner,
True,
And remember now we’re told by the left that he’s prepared to be POTUS based primarily on this glorious 19 month campaign.
What’s better is he’s running against Palin! What a dope.
Tsk tsk.
Spending other people’s money like liberals always do, except now, they can’t “legally” extort more through taxation.
My oh my, what to do...?
Will they somehow raise the rent on time? Find out next week on “The Worm Turns”!
Here in SE PA, I'm seeing some Obama ads, but not as many as I'd expect. His signs are thin on the ground, and the local Obama campaign office that opened up in the past week looks really tacky with handwritten signs in the window. Some of the ladies from my church were delighted to hear that an "Obama Store" had opened, but were very sorry that he had displaced the local Christian bookstore in the process. Whenever I visit the fresh produce and fish store in the same shopping strip, I'll be sure to park in front of the HQ with my McCain bumper sticker facing outward!
Broke Barack Mountain?!
Good one!
Great line.
Are you kidding he has KOS and DU deep pockets. LOL.

Sounds like Enron financing...
Maybe he could sell a t-shirt
“I’m flat broke AND flat busted”
That's one part of it. The other is to draw the magical one's critics out into the open. The critics will get in their shots now while it appears that the magical one is hurting for donations. They'll mock him and point out his apparent flaws. Then, with a sprinkle of pixie dust, everything is better again. The magical one will be flush with cash and his critics will be left holding the bag. In any case, I wouldn't place too much stock in this bit of bad news for obama.
>Just a hunch- this will be followed up in a couple of
>weeks by a story that proclaims the brilliance of the
>magical one as he manages to break all records for all

Key lines ...
- “David Plouffe, the Obama campaign manager, said the majority of the Obama campaigns donors during the primary had yet to write checks for the general election. When they do, he said, it will be the equivalent of the large injection of cash the McCain campaign is receiving from the government about $70 million or $80 million.”
If they sense he’s gonna tank, they won’t write the check
- “It collected in June and July far less from Senator Hillary Rodham Clintons donors than originally projected.”
Carly Fioerina is earning her keep going after the PUMA supply line ...
- “Moreover, Mr. McCain, unlike Mr. Obama, will have the luxury of concentrating almost entirely on campaigning instead of raising money, as Mr. Obama must do.
So while Obama is begging for cash, McCain is campaigning
-”Officials have also sketched out plans for Ms. Palin to do some 35 fund-raisers over the next two months. Mr. McCain will be dispatched for only four major fund-raisers”
Duh. use the VP as an attack dog and to raise cash. Meanwhile Obama as the star of the ticket has to stop campaigning to raise cash leaving Biden to make the case. An ass backwards scenario if there ever was one.
Rush is right. McBrilliant.
Don’t know but Mythessiah was here today for two events, one only garnered 250 fools, the other a college gym.
Both were in academia, no rent.
LMAO!
Sorry. The points in your post were brilliant, I thought.
It's just that I can't help breaking into a hard laugh every time I see that name and title.
He gets free advertising from the D-MSM everyday. That counts for something. Though these das they aren’t too popular themselves so maybe not quite as much as it once did.
I’m sure the 527’s aren’t closing up shop yet either and SOROS is still out there and the Hollywood crowd and their other millionaire and billionaire friends. Now admittedly if some of them think he’s a lost cause they might close up shop and focus on the House/Senate races instead but I doubt they are ready to throw in the towel before the debates.
This is just wonderful. It appears the Obambi spends as much as he brings in - I wonder what that extravaganza in Denver cost, with the styrofoam columns an all.
Now let me see if I have this correct. Obama wins the nomination from Hillery. Now, Obama wants Hillary to help him counter Sarah Palin plus help him pay for his campaign.
Apparently he doesn't know much about the Clintons. That isn't the way it works with them. They don't pay. They collect.
I always wonder how this can get away from the $2,300 per person limit. So, if it is packaged as a concert ticket, they basically can sell it for whatever price they want?
